(Housekeepers on duty) In Ocean City, we were three friends working at a hotel and a brewpub. One fine day, unsuspecting Veronika, while working as a hostess at the restaurant, received a wallet left behind by a customer from the manager. The manager instructed my friend: "Leave the document at the counter, the person who lost it will surely come back for it." Curious Veronika became interested and decided to look at the American's document. Instead of a standard ID, there was a real metal badge inside, similar to the ones we've all seen on police officers in American movies. It was the document of a special agent of the Secret Service (which is somehow connected to the protection of the US President), a person who should never, under any circumstances, lose their work badge. Remembering those movies with sheriffs, Veronika couldn't resist and decided to take a photo of such an unusual item as a souvenir. And then, the idea came to her head to share this photo with her friends: "Let them know what I'm dealing with here!" And she added this badge to Instagram, indicating her geolocation and adding the hashtags #secretservice and #specialagent. (meanwhile, at the hotel, someone left Kristina a watermelon as a tip!) (Same day. Showing off our loot!) A couple of days later, at our second job—the hotel—special agents from that very Secret Service arrived, just like in the movie "Men in Black," and demanded to see Veronika. My poor friend was taken into a dark room and subjected to a confrontation. One of the agents placed a printout of Veronika's Instagram in front of her and asked: "Is this yours?" The frightened girl only nodded in response. The agent asked where the document was now. He apparently thought she had stolen it. In reality, the badge had been left by Veronika at the hostess stand, and she hadn't done anything else with it. Then the agents took Veronika to our restaurant so she could give them the document. There, they were met by the manager, who confirmed that the owner of the badge had already picked it up a long time ago. The agents calmed down and released the girl, THANKING her for her vigilance before leaving. And the manager, upon learning about this situation, fired Veronika without a second thought for her carelessness. Because of this, Kristina and I subsequently had to sign papers confirming that we would not post customers' personal belongings online. We continued working at that restaurant until the end of the summer. But our beloved Veronika managed to change three jobs. She worked as a consultant, then as a cashier in a souvenir shop, where she also did T-shirt printing. Then she got a job in customer service at an amusement park, thanks to which she got tickets to all the rides, and we had free access to the water park, go-karting, and other entertainment events. So, you could say the Secret Service opened new doors for Veronika in America. (The gang is ready for rock climbing. Thanks to Veronika for the free tickets!) (Over this summer, the three of us made over three thousand beds!) (The things people leave in their rooms!)
