The new year 2022 has come, I am leaving with a group of friends from the city of love, Paris , we are heading by bus full of exhausted, but nevertheless happy people, to Germany, passing Brussels. During these adventures, everyone fulfilled their little dreams. Young, excited people sing songs in chorus, waiting for the next destination, and only I am sitting in the thought… I'm thinking what to do next after returning to Kazakhstan. After all, my exchange semester should end soon, and not all young and ambitious people, whom I am, want to stay in one place. On my return, going through all the options to continue exploring our vast world, since Europe has shown what a multicultural world it is, I came across all kinds of programs for students, including Work and Travel. I have a golden rule, "if you see an opportunity- take it." And I follow this rule dutifully. Despite the fact that I, as an ordinary person, have a habit of breaking the rules and not keeping my words. And as you can see from where you see this story, my dear readers, I followed my rule this time too. And so, let's figure out why Work and Travel? And what kind of experience do I want to get? Firstly, I would like to point out that the program allows you to work in an English-speaking country. This is a great opportunity for guys whose profession is related to English, and even more so for future teachers like me. Language is an instrument of thinking. To handle the language somehow means to think somehow: inaccurately, approximately, incorrectly. Learning and knowing the structure of a language is one thing, it's another thing to speak and feel a language. When you try to speak correctly, follow language rules - this creates difficulties, and being in the environment with native speakers gives the person a huge bonus and removes those very barriers. In the process of working together you get used to live speech, remember the features of intonation and pronunciation, learn to distinguish different dialects. Moreover, knowledge of the language develops memory and thinking, enriches the inner world, helps to better understand the culture of native speakers. In addition, words that sound somehow in your language take on a different meaning in a foreign one. Secondly, travel. As the name of the program itself says, the purpose of the program is to work and travel. Coming to travel and going back is a good and pleasant pastime, but the experience that I will describe to you now is much more interesting. Summer. You found friends from different countries, you have one common language, you worked and were a close-knit team, you spent a productive and most atmospheric summer in the country of Netflix, McDonalds, Apple, skyscrapers, baseball and capitalism, and then you go on a trip to the states that you dreamed of getting to since childhood on your hard-earned money. You have to admit, it sounds fascinating! When else in your life will you have such a chance? Travel develops us. I'm sure you've heard it many times. So how does this manifest itself? Before my exchange studies, I thought I was good at geography, and I was wrong. It turned out that I was confusing ordinary facts, and it was my arrival in Europe and the desire to visit every corner of it that helped me consolidate my knowledge about this culture. Now, I know which country borders on another, now I know the capitals of the Scandinavian countries, which I constantly confused, I can distinguish the architectural style of medieval cathedrals, and that Finnish is not a Germanic language at all, as I previously thought. I know facts that I would never have guessed to search on Google in my life, I know folk history from the stories of the citizens themselves. I thought I knew enough about America, because my generation grew up consuming American content. However, based on my experience, I know that I still have a lot to learn. In addition, it is an opportunity to show the world your people. Kazakhstan is a mul

Dense urban quarters shape daily routines around local markets and underground rail.
Long-term living revolves around the municipal arrondissements, where housing represents the bulk of monthly expenditure. Private landlords enforce strict screening hurdles, demanding rigorous income guarantees and official backing before signing a lease. Shifting toward outer districts lowers rent while maintaining direct rail links to central commercial zones.

Daily mobility depends on the dense network of regional trains, buses, and underground lines coordinated across the capital. Multiple transit agencies manage the platforms, meaning labour strikes or maintenance works frequently halt specific routes without warning. Crowded carriages also attract organized pickpocketing syndicates, making bag vigilance essential during rush-hour commutes.
Daytime routines counter the steep expense of evening dining through established local habits. Neighbourhood bistros serve fixed lunch menus that provide substantial midday meals for far less money than dinner service. Taking morning espresso standing directly at the zinc counter further curbs costs, as sidewalk terrace seating carries an immediate service premium.

- Residential rents are legally capped across the city, requiring tenants to verify listings against official ceilings.
- Landlords demand income proof substantially exceeding monthly rent and frequently require a local guarantor or state guarantee.
- State housing benefits require a domestic bank account and cannot be claimed retroactively for earlier months.
1 more rule
- Local bistros often place tables tightly together and seat separate parties beside strangers.
Do subway and train networks use the same tickets?
The regional transport authority manages travel integration across the metropolitan area. Standard tickets function interchangeably on subway routes and suburban rail lines operated by either RATP or SNCF. Travelers can plan itineraries and load electronic tickets through the regional transit application.
Source: WikivoyageHow can travelers reach central Paris from Charles de Gaulle Airport?
Suburban rail lines run directly from airport terminals into major central interchange stations. Passengers transfer from these trains onto connecting subway lines with their standard airport fare. Night bus routes maintain passenger service toward the city centre after suburban train operations halt.
Source: WikivoyageHow can passengers avoid pickpockets on public transit?
Theft rings focus on passengers boarding subway carriages, suburban lines, and airport connection links. Perpetrators frequently target mobile phones and grab luggage right as automatic doors shut. Travelers should keep valuables stored securely in front pockets and remain watchful on crowded platforms.
Source: WikivoyageWhat financial support and rental guarantees exist for long-term tenants?
French landlords require documented income alongside a domestic guarantor or the state Visale guarantee program. Long-term renters and university students can apply for the national housing assistance benefit managed through CAF. Joining an apartment share remains standard practice to satisfy stringent tenancy requirements.
Source: Cost of Living in Paris 2026: Real Monthly Budget | BestCitiesInFrance · Cost of Living in Paris 2026: Student Budget & RentHow can visitors eat affordably at local restaurants?
Neighborhood bistros offer lunch set menus that cost substantially less than standard evening dining. Popular establishments fill up quickly and require advance reservations, which are easier to secure during lunch service. Food stands and neighborhood bakeries offer portable takeout alternatives for midday dining.
Source: WikivoyageIs the subway network convenient for travelers with heavy luggage?
Navigating underground subway platforms involves climbing and descending multiple flights of stairs. Escalators and passenger elevators remain uncommon across the network, existing primarily in newer stations. Station interchanges frequently demand extensive walking along connecting tunnels.

People who have been here
As I was leaving the museum, I noticed a young guy. "What are you doing here?" I asked. He pointed to a trailer shaped like a pink flamingo. "See that van? It's our shop. We travel, sell clothes and more. Come on, I'll show you." Three friends run the shop together. And for the town residents, they opened a small cafe. The young guy I met turned out to be a musician. After saying that, he ran off like a teenager to get his guitar to show off his playing to us... (In response, I played Tsoi's "Pachka sigaret" on his guitar)) But the main attraction of their shop for us became a hummingbird that suddenly flew in. Emotions were already overflowing after everything we had seen in the town, and as a thank you, we treated the guys to apples and gave them all the canned food we had saved for our lunch. That was the end of our visit to Slab City, where we just cracked open a window into an unknown world of freedom. This city is like no other. And it's hard to even call it a city... Slab City wasn't the last stop on our road trip, but it was the brightest. I know we will return to visit our new friends, but as I drive across the states, I now understand Americans who, even with enough earnings from a modest job to travel the world, don't do it. Flying through time zones, the scenery outside the car window constantly changed. Forests gave way to deserts, deserts to subtropical palms, and then the entire horizon was swallowed by mountains. I think every American understands how huge and diverse their country is, and that's why the American dream is most often not a dream of visiting Paris, but a desire to rent a car with a trailer to travel all over America.

Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm, Helsinki, London, Reykjavik, Vienna, New York, Miami, Boston, Washington, Amsterdam, Brussels, San Francisco, Los Angeles - these are the major cities I have already visited, and you know what? I found my favorite! This is a case where a city truly deserves its massive global popularity. Los Angeles is a unique city. I'm serious. A huge metropolis with completely different neighborhoods. So, which one is the most memorable? Of course, it's Hollywood! This is where the most famous film studios were born, this is where the Oscars ceremony takes place at the Kodak Theatre, here is the Walk of Fame, and everything around is vibrant—just like in movies and video games. By the way, the first film ever made entirely in Hollywood was the 1910 short film 'In Old California'. In short, spend your money on experiences.
We are leaving for New York tomorrow. And I suddenly realized that I still haven't told you about Washington. First of all, Washington is very tourist-friendly. All the most significant places are within walking distance of each other. Admission to most places is free, so you want to visit as many as possible. The architecture is very different from most American cities; there are practically no skyscrapers. It felt like I was walking somewhere in Europe; it reminded me of Paris, it was just as cozy and comfortable. We were in Washington for two days. This time is quite enough to visit the main attractions. Of course, we didn't get inside the White House and couldn't break into the Pentagon. But to my great surprise, it is possible to do so. You need to sign up for a visit to the White House two months in advance, and to the Pentagon no later than six months in advance! The Capitol really captured my heart (no surprise there). Every year, about 4.5 million tourists visit the famous Congress building. There are 540 rooms in the Capitol in total, but tourists can only see 2 of them. The first and second floors house the Congress offices, and the third is occupied by the House of Representatives, the Rotunda, and the Senate. Tours of the Capitol are absolutely free. Getting to the Capitol is no trouble at all. The country's main building stands in the very center of Washington, and all the main streets of the city lead to it. At night, it looks especially majestic; opposite it is an alley that leads directly to the famous Washington Monument. Everything around is planted with beautiful lawns where you can have a picnic while admiring the beautiful sunset.

Hi everyone. This is Aigerim, who saw the contest information just a few hours before it ended. I might name my blog "Aigerim in NEW-YORK, like Emily in PARIS". Let me explain why: the American Emily unexpectedly gets a job offer in Paris, and there she encounters all sorts of interesting adventures, new friends, love, and a new culture. Similarly, I, Aigerim from Kazakhstan, upon hearing the happy news from IEC, believe that I have received a great opportunity to make the summer of 2023 as useful, interesting, and full of new friends, bright events, and new cultural experiences as possible :) My full name is Temirbekova Aigerim. I am a 3rd-year student at the Kazakh National University of Arts. My English level is INTERMEDIATE. My major is Academic Singing; in a word, I am a future opera singer😊 My soul finds joy in art and culture, and I have been involved in music and art for 12 years. During this time, I have been very active and have achieved many successes. I am an active participant in university, city, regional, and national events. I am a member of the UNESCO club, a scholarship holder of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Foundation, and in 2019 I was named "BEST STUDENT OF THE YEAR". I devote most of my time to my profession—vocal training—at a professional level. In addition, I lead a healthy lifestyle, play sports, and am learning English, Italian, and French. I love researching languages, and the history, culture, art, and music of those countries are very interesting to me. The reason I chose the Work and Travel program is that since childhood, I have been watching American movies, operas, reading books, and observing their way of life, which sparked a great interest in me. Even Harry Potter opened up a great love in me because there are filming locations for that movie in the USA, and seeing the park is one of my dreams. One of my biggest dreams is, as a student who loves opera, to visit the Metropolitan Opera Theatre and see the performances with my own eyes. According to the schedule, I saw that there will be a performance in June at this theater with the participation of great opera masters, and I wrote it down in my dream notebook. In 2020, I heard that there was an opportunity for students to go to America through this program. Of course, at that time, everything seemed simple and inaccessible because it was a period of stagnation; we went through quarantine/coronavirus/a very scary period. Over time, I focused more on my profession, studies, and development; besides, my parents were against it. Because I am the spoiled daughter of the house, they worry a lot. But now, having fully understood the program and seeing that many students have returned home safely, their worries have gone away. And as a 3rd-year student, I am very interested in the opportunity to go to the USA, and there are sufficient reasons for this. 1. I love traveling. Since I was a teenager, I grew up watching "Oryol i Reshka", Dmitry Komarov's "Mir Naiznanku", and Ptushkin's episodes. Those programs greatly changed my view of the world. The beautiful landscapes, historical places, culture, cheerful people, languages, and traditions they showed, and their art, increased my love for traveling, and a big dream appeared to see everything with my own eyes. On the current internet, on Instagram and TikTok, there are many travel bloggers who were also participants in the WORK AND TRAVEL program. When I browse through so much information and interesting facts about America, I think that I also have many opportunities to go to America, and I can do it too. "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many people need it very much," said Mark Twain, and he knew a lot about travel. I know that traveling changes a person's consciousness for the better, and it improves a person's emotional health. 2. The second is experience. Kubissenova Saltanat IEC Kazakhstan 8th group International exchange program: now and in the future There are many programs available today, in the twenty-first century, that offer the chance to travel, study and work abroad. We witness people successfully returning home after having participated in an international program, providing positive feedback, and recommending others to participate. The key to a future that is sustainable, one where the generation is educated and has a wider worldview, is giving students these possibilities. My university provided me with the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student in Lithuania last semester. At the age of 18 years old, I was a young girl who had never left her home country. Sincerely, it was quite challenging to be alone with strangers and away from home. However, over time, these random strangers turned into my closest friends. During my six-month study abroad, in Lithuania, Samantha and I lived in the same room. In a way, Samantha was my sister, or "sorella" in Italian. This second-year Italian master's student helped me adapt to the community at a foreign university and introduced me to other Erasmus students. It was wonderful for me to be acquainted with individuals from Turkey, Korea, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Indonesia, Morocco and India since they all had unique personalities and were a part of their different cultures. I made an attempt to manage my courses so that I could return to my former university with a satisfactory grade. At Kaunas University of Technology, where I spent the whole semester studying, we were taught how to learn more effectively. I found that studying in Europe is relatively simpler than in Kazakhstan, considering the practically identical educational system. For instance, we just took the midterm and final examinations at KTU, which felt more comfortable to me than the midterm, endterm, and final exams we take at my own university. Actually, I had four school courses in total, and they were all very different from one another. As a student of mathematical science speciality, I found learning about physics to be somewhat difficult. Despite this, I was able to pass each subject with honors, and I returned to my Suleyman Demirel university with pleasure. A trip to Copenhagen with my friend Elmira from Kazakhstan and two korean girls is among the memories I will not soon forget. We arrived at 7 a.m. without carefully checking our flight while the flight was scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. When we could not find our flight in the list of flights for the following two hours, we became really anxious. We asked the airport employees, after that we recognized our faults, and made the choice to wait for our flight. In the airport, we fell asleep while hugging our luggage. Nevertheless, we traveled about Copenhagen for two days, enjoying traditional delicacies and seeing the origin of the well-known Copenhagen Tigers store. I am delighted to get the opportunity and fulfill a childhood dream of mine by traveling to the city of love, Paris . Even at first glance, it is obvious that this country is a megalopolis with magnificent historical buildings that gives a completely European atmosphere, which I want to return to. Work and travel is one of the well-known programs that helps students find employment abroad and travel throughout the USA. Every year, this program sends a large number of students to America to pursue their dreams. Programs offer all assistance, including aid in locating employment, assistance with obtaining a visa, and contact information for 24-hour emergency services in the USA. With the help of this curriculum, students learn to push themselves beyond their comfort zones and work hard to earn money for fun and pleasure. I want to be in the USA after such an amazing experience with my university's exchange program. I was encouraged to give this program a try by my closest friend who took part in it. After considering all the information, I
