The new year 2022 has come, I am leaving with a group of friends from the city of love, Paris , we are heading by bus full of exhausted, but nevertheless happy people, to Germany, passing Brussels. During these adventures, everyone fulfilled their little dreams. Young, excited people sing songs in chorus, waiting for the next destination, and only I am sitting in the thought… I'm thinking what to do next after returning to Kazakhstan. After all, my exchange semester should end soon, and not all young and ambitious people, whom I am, want to stay in one place. On my return, going through all the options to continue exploring our vast world, since Europe has shown what a multicultural world it is, I came across all kinds of programs for students, including Work and Travel. I have a golden rule, "if you see an opportunity- take it." And I follow this rule dutifully. Despite the fact that I, as an ordinary person, have a habit of breaking the rules and not keeping my words. And as you can see from where you see this story, my dear readers, I followed my rule this time too. And so, let's figure out why Work and Travel? And what kind of experience do I want to get? Firstly, I would like to point out that the program allows you to work in an English-speaking country. This is a great opportunity for guys whose profession is related to English, and even more so for future teachers like me. Language is an instrument of thinking. To handle the language somehow means to think somehow: inaccurately, approximately, incorrectly. Learning and knowing the structure of a language is one thing, it's another thing to speak and feel a language. When you try to speak correctly, follow language rules - this creates difficulties, and being in the environment with native speakers gives the person a huge bonus and removes those very barriers. In the process of working together you get used to live speech, remember the features of intonation and pronunciation, learn to distinguish different dialects. Moreover, knowledge of the language develops memory and thinking, enriches the inner world, helps to better understand the culture of native speakers. In addition, words that sound somehow in your language take on a different meaning in a foreign one. Secondly, travel. As the name of the program itself says, the purpose of the program is to work and travel. Coming to travel and going back is a good and pleasant pastime, but the experience that I will describe to you now is much more interesting. Summer. You found friends from different countries, you have one common language, you worked and were a close-knit team, you spent a productive and most atmospheric summer in the country of Netflix, McDonalds, Apple, skyscrapers, baseball and capitalism, and then you go on a trip to the states that you dreamed of getting to since childhood on your hard-earned money. You have to admit, it sounds fascinating! When else in your life will you have such a chance? Travel develops us. I'm sure you've heard it many times. So how does this manifest itself? Before my exchange studies, I thought I was good at geography, and I was wrong. It turned out that I was confusing ordinary facts, and it was my arrival in Europe and the desire to visit every corner of it that helped me consolidate my knowledge about this culture. Now, I know which country borders on another, now I know the capitals of the Scandinavian countries, which I constantly confused, I can distinguish the architectural style of medieval cathedrals, and that Finnish is not a Germanic language at all, as I previously thought. I know facts that I would never have guessed to search on Google in my life, I know folk history from the stories of the citizens themselves. I thought I knew enough about America, because my generation grew up consuming American content. However, based on my experience, I know that I still have a lot to learn. Similarly, I, Aigerim from Kazakhstan, upon hearing the happy news from IEC, believe that I have received a great opportunity to make the summer of 2023 as useful, interesting, and full of new friends, bright events, and new cultural experiences as possible :) My full name is Temirbekova Aigerim. I am a 3rd-year student at the Kazakh National University of Arts. My English level is INTERMEDIATE. My major is Academic Singing; in a word, I am a future opera singer😊 My soul finds joy in art and culture, and I have been involved in music and art for 12 years. During this time, I have been very active and have achieved many successes. I am an active participant in university, city, regional, and national events. I am a member of the UNESCO club, a scholarship holder of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Foundation, and in 2019 I was named "BEST STUDENT OF THE YEAR". I devote most of my time to my profession—vocal training—at a professional level. In addition, I lead a healthy lifestyle, play sports, and am learning English, Italian, and French. One of my biggest dreams is, as a student who loves opera, to visit the Metropolitan Opera Theatre and see the performances with my own eyes. According to the schedule, I saw that there will be a performance in June at this theater with the participation of great opera masters, and I wrote it down in my dream notebook. In 2020, I heard that there was an opportunity for students to go to America through this program. Of course, at that time, everything seemed simple and inaccessible because it was a period of stagnation; we went through quarantine/coronavirus/a very scary period. Over time, I focused more on my profession, studies, and development; besides, my parents were against it. Because I am the spoiled daughter of the house, they worry a lot. But now, having fully understood the program and seeing that many students have returned home safely, their worries have gone away. And as a 3rd-year student, I am very interested in the opportunity to go to the USA, and there are sufficient reasons for this. 1. I love traveling. Since I was a teenager, I grew up watching "Oryol i Reshka", Dmitry Komarov's "Mir Naiznanku", and Ptushkin's episodes. Those programs greatly changed my view of the world. The beautiful landscapes, historical places, culture, cheerful people, languages, and traditions they showed, and their art, increased my love for traveling, and a big dream appeared to see everything with my own eyes. On the current internet, on Instagram and TikTok, there are many travel bloggers who were also participants in the WORK AND TRAVEL program. Kubissenova Saltanat IEC Kazakhstan 8th group International exchange program: now and in the future There are many programs available today, in the twenty-first century, that offer the chance to travel, study and work abroad. We witness people successfully returning home after having participated in an international program, providing positive feedback, and recommending others to participate. The key to a future that is sustainable, one where the generation is educated and has a wider worldview, is giving students these possibilities. My university provided me with the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student in Lithuania last semester. At the age of 18 years old, I was a young girl who had never left her home country. Sincerely, it was quite challenging to be alone with strangers and away from home. However, over time, these random strangers turned into my closest friends. During my six-month study abroad, in Lithuania, Samantha and I lived in the same room. In a way, Samantha was my sister, or "sorella" in Italian.This second-year Italian master's student helped me adapt to the community at a foreign university and introduced me to other Erasmus students. It was wonderful for me to be acquainted with individuals from Turkey, Korea, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Indonesia, Morocco and India since they all had unique personalities and were a part of their different cultures. I made an attempt to manage my courses so that I could return to my former university with a satisfactory grade. At Kaunas University of Technology, where I spent the whole semester studying, we were taught how to learn more effectively. I found that studying in Europe is relatively simpler than in Kazakhstan, considering the practically identical educational system. For instance, we just took the midterm and final examinations at KTU, which felt more comfortable to me than the midterm, endterm, and final exams we take at my own university. Actually, I had four school courses in total, and they were all very different from one another. As a student of mathematical science speciality, I found learning about physics to be somewhat difficult. Despite this, I was able to pass each subject with honors, and I returned to my Suleyman Demirel university with pleasure. A trip to Copenhagen with my friend Elmira from Kazakhstan and two korean girls is among the memories I will not soon forget. We arrived at 7 a.m. without carefully checking our flight while the flight was scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. When we could not find our flight in the list of flights for the following two hours, we became really anxious. We asked the airport employees, after that we recognized our faults, and made the choice to wait for our flight. In the airport, we fell asleep while hugging our luggage. Nevertheless, we traveled about Copenhagen for two days, enjoying traditional delicacies and seeing the origin of the well-known Copenhagen Tigers store. I am delighted to get the opportunity and fulfill a childhood dream of mine by traveling to the city of love, Paris . Even at first glance, it is obvious that this country is a megalopolis with magnificent historical buildings that gives a completely European atmosphere, which I want to return to. Work and travel is one of the well-known programs that helps students find employment abroad and travel throughout the USA. Every year, this program sends a large number of students to America to pursue their dreams. Programs offer all assistance, including aid in locating employment, assistance with obtaining a visa, and contact information for 24-hour emergency services in the USA. With the help of this curriculum, students learn to push themselves beyond their comfort zones and work hard to earn money for fun and pleasure. I want to be in the USA after such an amazing experience with my university's exchange program. I was encouraged to give this program a try by my closest friend who took part in it.
