Konum hakkında

Samara operates as a heavy industrial capital shaped by decades of closed-city aerospace production.

The settlement originated as a frontier fortress at the river junction and later served as the reserve capital of the country during foreign invasion. Wartime evacuations brought central government ministries, foreign embassies, and major aircraft plants eastward. Subsequent decades turned the district into a closed manufacturing core dedicated to the national space program, including assembly of the launch vehicle that carried Yuri Gagarin into orbit.

Pre-revolutionary merchant mansions and regional Art Nouveau facades stand alongside expansive Soviet industrial complexes. Production lines continue turning out rocket engines, power machinery, and confectionery, alongside the historic brewery by the riverbank. Daily movement depends on streetcars through residential quarters, because the underground rail line follows an isolated corridor that bypasses key central areas.

Cultural life centres on regional museum collections and heritage houses tied to revolutionary figures like Vladimir Lenin and Mikhail Frunze. The surrounding river geography historically harboured river raiders along the bend before becoming a regular commercial corridor. Beyond urban borders, public gatherings include the annual Grushinsky festival, drawing acoustic musicians and campers to lakeside stages.

As a follow-up: about Maine and Maine Coons - 1

By the way, I remembered why I wanted to go to Maine so much. The reason was this book, "Discover America." It had tons of interesting information about every state and described several major cities, creating a feeling that there just wasn't enough space, even though there was so much more to tell. Maine, however, only got a page and a half. The facts were few and far between. Something about apple picking and vast uninhabited territories stretching along the coast. That was all that stayed in my head from those pages, but that was exactly when I became truly interested. You see, I didn't believe it. Land near the Atlantic Ocean next to Canada couldn't be so boring that the only thing to write about was apple picking. Apparently, no one had really made it there. The wonderful Kirill from Saint Petersburg didn't make it, Ilf and Petrov didn't make it back in 1935, and even Genis and Vail in their exhaustive "Americana" settled for general words about New England. Well, that's a pity. Because others who did make it stayed here. They preferred Maine to the most famous and popular states, to the mild climate, the hot sun all year round, and even to good old Europe. And yours truly has become attached to Maine with all her heart and soul; to be honest, I've just fallen terribly in love and don't know what to do. It would be interesting to know why it turns out this way, wouldn't it? Strictly speaking, my love is doomed from the very beginning. Because you cannot become a Mainer. You can only be born one. You can have children here (and they will be Mainers, but you won't), live for many years and decades, and even become a member of some city council. They will accept you. But then you take the floor: you clear your throat and introduce yourself: I am so-and-so, from... Next, you have to name your birthplace, which in our case is "from away." You must! Otherwise, they will think you are claiming the title of a Mainer, and that is even more dangerous. So, you say "From away" - and that's basically it. The end. No, keep talking, but no one is listening to you anymore... Any newcomer - whether from another country or even another state - is perceived as an invader. And the main source of "evil" is Boston. The metropolis can indeed be destructive to small provincial towns, which is what the state essentially boils down to. Its entire population is 1.3 million people, like my native Samara. The number has hardly changed since the 19th century, as if to confirm how stubbornly and successfully this million-plus population defends itself against any invasions. Maine is a very conservative state. They don't like changes in any sphere of life, just as they don't like them in the outside world. The state hardly changes externally. If you look at photos of the pulp mill in my Yarmouth, its former outlines, as well as the outlines of the adjacent streets, are easy to recognize in the modern look of the city. However, it is difficult to draw conclusions here because there is nothing to compare it with. Europe and our country were heavily reshaped by wars and revolutions, and one cannot speak of good will: if there had been any, maybe we would have preserved things too, right? But it must be admitted that Mainers have something to protect. Take, for example, the New England architectural style. Imagine me walking through an unfamiliar city in search of what, you might ask? A McDonald's. Yes, that's how a moth is drawn to a flame and midnight to dawn. In any strange place - a city, an airport - I instinctively reach for a small, familiar island where I never eat, but always know what to expect. So, my path follows all the maps and directions from passersby, but the golden arches are nowhere to be seen. I stand at the designated intersection across from an elegant mansion until I realize that the mansion is the McDonald's. Local law restricts outdoor advertising in such a way that it has no right to be "outdoor." That is, a sign inside the restaur

Finally!)

June 28, 2010 Well, the day has finally arrived. Yesterday I said goodbye to my family and boarded the Samara – St. Petersburg train. The train ride is nice, but there's a draft from the window—I can't afford to get sick right now—so I wrapped myself up all night to avoid it. It's sunny outside, and I think St. Petersburg will greet me with good weather. It's my first time in St. Petersburg, it should be interesting. Yes, today is a significant day for me—I'm turning 21, and for the first time, I'm spending this day alone. Everything happens for the first time eventually. I'm heading to the USA for the first time, and it's my first time being away alone for so long. What should I expect? New experiences, new impressions! I think this trip is invaluable in terms of gaining new skills. And it will be a good lesson in my life. Will I break? Will I be able to prove myself? I am in my own hands. Everything that happens depends only on me and luck.

Is it really that simple? YES!

The embassy, is it really that simple? The whole difficulty of the embassy lies in the agonizing hours of waiting, not knowing if you can start packing your bags or not... a sleepless night, a good half of your nerve cells, and a broken heel for two minutes of conversation and the consul's coveted signature. Is it worth it? From experience, I can say IT IS WORTH IT!!! I have never felt such a sense of inspiration, relief, and boundless joy and pride in myself after any exam! Now for the details... The morning started well, not counting the lump in my throat, shaking hands, and dizziness from fear. Having overcome ourselves, my friend and I left all our things at a Moscow friend's apartment and set off in search of the embassy. Or rather, the monument where we were supposed to meet. After getting off at the right metro station, we naturally headed in the wrong direction! When we realized we were lost and didn't even have a phone to call, we started to panic, to put it mildly, but kept walking. After a few tips from passersby, we finally found the embassy! But to our regret, it looked nothing like the photo we had printed out. As it turned out later, we had approached it from the wrong side and had to walk all the way around it (and this circle turned out to be quite large!!). Actually, this is where I had to say goodbye to my heel support))) Reaching the right entrance, we started looking for our group and stood in line with relief. (By the way, it's built according to a list, if anyone doesn't know, which personally didn't please me at all because I ended up 4th on the list.) This is where the exhausting wait in line on the street began. Everyone was freezing, so here is a piece of advice: no matter how warm it is in your city or what the weather forecasters say, dress as warmly as possible, because Moscow is a very nasty city in terms of weather! Then another hour of waiting inside the embassy, and here I am, next in line for the consul. My heart stops, my hands shake, and my head is a mess of English words. A booth opens up... I force a smile and head toward the available consul. Seeing him made me feel better. Bald with a beard and a sweet smile. Well, here we go: Me: Hello (smile ear to ear, while my hands are shaking) C: Hello. How are you? Me: I'm fine, thanks, and you? C: Oo, I'm ok. Put your finger, right hand, to the scanner. Me: Which one? (I said in Russian purely by reflex and froze) C: The middle one (also in Russian!! And he laughs) So, where are you studying? Me: I'm studying at Samara State Economic University C: Well. Do you have a Job-offer? Me: Yes, my Job-offer is confirmed by the sponsor. C: And where will you be working? Me: A waitress in a restaurant, Long Beach, California C: California? (There was some surprise in his voice, you'd think I'm the first person going there!) Me: Yes C: (Here he takes my DS-2019) Ooo, you signed in my place. Me: Yes, I'm sorry (it was really very awkward.) C: I'm sorry, I have to refuse you a visa (my heart sank, but I kept a smile on my face, which was now against the backdrop of growing hysteria inside me.) Me: Why?? (swallowing the lump in my throat, I ask calmly and still with a smile) C: There is no place where I could sign Me: I am, to put it mildly, in shock, standing still C: (laughs) It’s a joke Me: .... (I smile and even laugh. But I can't believe my ears! Is that even allowed?) C: (signing the DS-2019) Do you know the famous person from Long Beach? Me: No, only the governor of California, Schwarzenegger C: No, I'm talking about Long Beach Me: No, I do not know C: Snoop Dogg (with such a satisfied look on his face) Me: Seriously? I do not know. C: Maybe you'll meet him Me: Maybe C: When you're in the U.S., give him my greetings. Have a nice trip! Me: OK! Thank you!! And now I'm on the street, people are asking me how it went, what they asked, if many were refused... I answer, I say that I am delighted with the consul (I really liked him, it was pleasant to talk to
