Informazioni sul luogo

Napa anchors a world-renowned agricultural valley while functioning as a working county seat.

Arrival routes channel travelers from major airports in San Francisco and Oakland via scheduled shuttles and regional highways. San Francisco Bay Ferry passengers reach the town by connecting through Vallejo onto regional VINE buses. Napa County Airport accommodates private charters rather than commercial flights. Daily local transit relies on VINE routes that connect downtown neighborhoods with adjacent communities.

Viticulture defines the landscape surrounding the urban center. Local wineries feature hillside cellars cut directly into mountain rock, estate art galleries, and manicured grounds. In town, collective tasting rooms gather bottles from independent family vineyards. Downtown dining clusters along Main Street and the riverfront, mixing historic mill markets with local microbreweries and casual stands.

Temporary living presents specific administrative and financial hurdles. The local hospitality market is heavily weighted toward historic bed and breakfasts, where proprietors enforce non-refundable booking deposits and mandatory multi-night weekend stays. Seasonal workers and extended visitors must secure private arrangements well in advance to avoid tourism surges that monopolize residential rentals and short-term rooms.

DAY 5 - TRAVELING AROUND THE USA

California is a major wine producer. It produces about 90% of the country's grapes and over 80% of its wine products. The first vineyards in California appeared in the late 17th century, but viticulture only began to develop 100 years later, when Europeans brought 300 grape varieties (about 100,000 seedlings) to California. Is it really that good? We decided to go and check for ourselves. The closest wine region to San Francisco is Napa Valley. It is considered one of the best wine-producing regions in the world. The most interesting part isn't the wine itself, but the fact that we never actually tasted it)) Forgetting about the wonderful law that applies in every state—alcohol is only allowed for those over 21 (we are 19)—we just watched our bus neighbors tasting wine and headed to the vineyards themselves... After spending over an hour in the bushes (each grape variety grows separately there, and we tried almost every one), I can say with confidence that each one clearly differs in taste from the next (obviously). More acidic grapes make drier wine, and sweeter grapes make sweet wine (obviously [1]). What's interesting is that they ask for $35 and up for a single bottle, whereas in Italy, we bought insanely delicious wine for $2. A total rip-off 🤷🏼‍♀️

Napa Valley – the land of vineyards

Napa Valley is a place created for lovers of fine wine tasting. But even if you are not one, you will still love it. Besides the expensive, high-quality wine that you can taste literally everywhere, in this valley you can enjoy the romance of the local nature, take a hot air balloon ride, and gain useful information about wine production at old castle-like wineries. It is a place where you can literally drink in the beauty of the area.

St. Helena, California

St. Helena, California Grandma. Napa Valley is the most famous wine region in California. The entire valley is covered in vineyards, planted in neat rows, and sometimes there are poles between them with shiny ribbons fluttering in the wind. - Why? - I ask Michael. - They spray sulfide from the sky so it's visible where... And the ribbons glisten in the sun, making it more visible from the sky. The road leads to large gates; they open automatically, and we drive onto the vineyard grounds, then up a steep hill from where you can see the entire surroundings, and we stop next to the house. The house in the middle of the hill, surrounded on all sides by bright flowers and green trees, looks very picturesque. Behind the house is a pool with a small diving board, lounge chairs, and umbrellas. A dog runs out from the open door and starts jumping around us, barking loudly at everyone: at me, at Michael, and at Natasha. - Come on Rhyley! Good boy! A little old lady appears in the doorway; she smiles and looks at her guests with interest. - Hello! This is Rhyley, he... he is good, he is a good dog. I look at Michael, then at her, then back at Michael and back at her... They look alike. And I have already seen her smile - Michael's sister smiles almost the same way. In the first black-and-white photo from the album, there is a young woman in a long white dress with a veil, with short curly hair and glowing eyes, a true Russian beauty. Olga Smirnova got married in San Francisco in 1949; she was 19 years old. - I had to leave university, but I never regretted it. We were very happy. The next series of photos - Olga is standing in the middle of the hill, her hair blowing in the wind, and she is smiling the same way. - I am standing on the spot where our house will be. This very house we are in now. In the next photo, the whole family is in the same place. Olga with her husband, and next to them on the grass sit five children: two girls and three boys, and one of them is Michael's father. Olga's parents were mining engineers. They left Russia in 1917 - fleeing from the Reds. They lived in Yokohama, Japan for six years, then moved to San Francisco. That is where Olga was born. In 1928. - And how many grandchildren do you have? - Fourteen. - And she remembers all our birthdays by heart. - Michael smiles. - Wow! I couldn't even imagine that you have a real Russian grandmother!
