A story about the Work and Travel program How did I find out about the program? Seeing America… it’s a long-held dream. Perhaps my favorite movies and series filmed by American studios, English songs, and even the beloved GTA had a big influence on this;) I found out about the Work and Travel program quite a long time ago, while in middle school, I think, like most people, through YouTube;) Since then, my recommendations have been perfectly tuned, and I often got lost watching videos about the States. But, watching the beautiful picture from computer and phone screens, this big dream seemed like something very distant and unattainable, something exclusively for the “chosen ones,” the “rich,” the “specially gifted,” in general, not like everyone else… or… not like me… But that was until a certain point. Then I found out that an acquaintance of mine was in America and, as it turned out, through this program! What a surprise it was! He could do it! That means it’s possible! Why am I any worse? After looking at his photos, supplemented by a bunch of interesting stories about the experience gained at the workplace, the town he lived in, and the second bright part of the program - traveling, I realized - I need to act! This is not a dream, this is a desire and a goal! So what did I learn about the Work and Travel program? Work and Travel is a program that brings together thousands, tens of thousands of students from all over the world to the USA during summer vacation, a program that gives you the opportunity not only to immerse yourself in “American life,” but also to learn about a number of other nationalities, their culture and everyday life, as well as introduce them to your own native culture and, likely, break many stereotypes and prejudices. The coolest thing about the program, in my opinion, is its duration, because during this time you can really get to know a new country, its residents, the peculiarities of their mentality, their traditions, as well as the division of the program into two parts, actually, Work and Travel. To work hard all summer so that with money earned independently, you can think through all the details and go on an unforgettable trip! And how much beauty you can see: The main symbol of America, reflecting the entire essence of the American mentality – the Statue of Liberty, the lights of the never-sleeping Times Square, the most beautiful and well-known Central Park, the tallest building in New York – the majestic Empire State Building, the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge, without exaggeration, a WONDER of nature – Niagara Falls, the visiting card of the state of Arizona - the spectacular and majestic Grand Canyon, and the biggest dream – the most famous bridge in the world, that very embodiment of beautiful San Francisco – the Golden Gate Bridge! Of course, a huge desire to visit the heart of the state of Massachusetts – Boston, the great, oldest university in the USA – Harvard University, to visit Los Angeles, to get acquainted with the main embodiment of the world film industry – Hollywood, to walk along the famous Walk of Fame, to be a guest of the most famous amusement parks in the world – Disneyland and Disneyworld, Universal Studios and, I am convinced, many, many more, no less beautiful and wonderful places! What do I hope to learn and achieve by becoming a participant in the program? Of course, first of all, to get to know the country, its local residents, to learn the peculiarities of their culture from the inside, to make friends and acquaintances from other countries, to improve my spoken English, to plunge into the world of independence, responsibility, household management, making important decisions without anyone’s help, TRAVELING and, of course, a bunch of new emotions and impressions! How will participating in the program help my future career? I am currently a second-year university student majoring in Tourism. I think that participating in the program will make a huge contribution to my d

Grand Canyon: what's nearby, how to get there and when to go · 2026
Grand Canyon Village isolates residents with finite municipal water lines and extreme vertical trail access, forcing long-term personnel to plan every rim-to-river journey around backcountry clearance.
Extreme vertical relief defines routine movement across the canyon rim.
Carved by the Colorado River across northern Arizona, the canyon forms an immense barrier between northern and southern plateaus. Ancestral Puebloan, Cohonina, and Sinagua groups inhabited these cliff environments centuries before Spanish expeditions reached the rim. Today, modern settlements cluster around strict park boundaries and tribal territories.

Daily operations along the populated South Rim run year-round, while high-altitude North Rim access shuts down entirely during winter snowpack. Domestic infrastructure relies heavily on fresh water transported across the gorge from northern springs through an aging pipeline. Resource conservation shapes domestic work as water reserves remain vulnerable.
Hikers face punishing elevation losses on descent that double in difficulty during the return climb under searing canyon heat. Rangers systematically discourage single-day round trips to the river due to regular medical evacuations, requiring wilderness campers to secure competitive permits from backcountry administrators months in advance.

- The Colorado River carved the steep-sided canyon within the borders of Arizona.
- South Rim facilities depend on water pumped through a pipeline running from North Rim springs.
- Park authorities advise against hiking down to the river and back to the rim in a single day.
- Overnight stays below the canyon rim mandate permits issued by the Backcountry Office.

Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend were our next stops on the trip. Each canyon is amazing in its own way, but Mother Nature needed the same resources to create them: water, sand, wind, and many years, thanks to which we can observe these fascinating and mesmerizing views. Especially when you stand on the edge, you feel the full power and strength of nature. And it is so unique that you won't be able to find two identical shots - each one is one of a kind. Words can't describe it, photos can't capture it. You just have to experience it yourself. Antelope Canyon is named that way for a reason. Antelopes used to run there. Also, it's interesting that if you didn't know this canyon was underground, you wouldn't find it. It is so inconspicuous (like a crack in the ground) that it's even more alluring.

On the way to Yellowstone National Park, our next stop for two whole days, we stopped by the small town of Jackson Hole. Americans certainly know how to set up souvenir shops so that you want to buy everything. By the way, I bought a warm poncho there, because at the end of September in Yellowstone it's already about 1 degree Celsius and they promised the first snow. Yellowstone is the world's first national park. It is famous for hundreds of geysers, mud volcanoes, and geothermal springs. Herds of bison, deer, and other animals roam the park. When you walk through the park, it feels like you're not even on planet Earth. Acidic lakes of poisonous colors, incredible landscapes, everything is steaming, bubbling, and seemingly breathing. One of my favorite views is the towering waterfall between giant cliffs (Artist Point). We didn't want to leave, to put it mildly... But there are even more wonders ahead. The whole next day we spent in the small town of Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City. This Mormon city, surrounded by incredible landscapes, seemed very cozy and safe to me, just like a little Switzerland. The next stop is Vegas! At that time we weren't 21 yet, and they wouldn't even let us into the rooftop pool of our hotel. So our entertainment was the rides at the top of our hotel, the Stratosphere, and shopping. I never really dreamed of going to Vegas, but this city is simply stunning! It's impossible to resist the countless casinos, luxurious hotels, cars, and boutiques. You want to spend every last cent. I will definitely come back here! By the way, Vegas is surrounded by a desert of incredible beauty, so pay attention during the day) The top photo on the left is our hotel, or rather the photo on the right is the view from the hotel! And finally, the Grand Canyon! In the 2 hours we spent there, we took a couple of photos, and the rest of the time we just enjoyed the feeling of freedom, sitting on the edge of the American Wild West. The biggest disappointment of our trip turned out to be Yosemite National Park. Firstly, after 5 hours on a winding road, you don't want to go for any walks. Secondly, September-October is the dry season, so there is simply no water in any of the waterfalls. Just bare rocks... As we learned later, the park is best visited in the spring, when the snow melts on the peaks and turns the bare rocks into waterfalls.

Chasetop1 on Instagram: "In 2024, I participated in the Work and Travel program for the second time, spending the entire summer immersed in this incredible experience. I celebrated two of my birthdays during this journey—when I turned 19 and 20—making these moments even more special❤️ This program gave me invaluable experiences, lifelong memories, and the opportunity to form meaningful friendships. It helped me grow, broaden my perspective, and create unforgettable stories that I will cherish forever💙. In the video, there was a small mistake—what should have been written as “NYC” was mistakenly shown as “NYS.” Apologies for the oversight, and thank you for understanding! @iec.kazakhstan as a bridge on this path🔥🙌🏻 You can find IEC on TikTok http://tiktok.com/@iec_1989 and on YouTube http://youtube.com/@IECRiga. After finishing my work part, I traveled to Boston, Washington DC, New York, and Niagara Falls. Last year, I explored the western U.S., visiting Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon , San Francisco, and Sequoia National Park. There wasn’t enough space to put all of those videos, but I enjoyed 😂. W&T, literally, the best program for students🔥" Видео: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDkeJTAIXc2/?igsh=MXg2bGplZDdnNWF1OA==
