À propos du lieu

Scale defines logistics across every jurisdiction. Setting up a long-term household requires navigating decentralized bureaucracies, relying on neighborhood shops for daily provisions, and adapting to pronounced regional differences.

Urban navigation relies on physical landmarks rather than consistent street signage. Postal addresses cite nearby temples, schools, and commercial showrooms to guide couriers. Drivers and pedestrians routinely ask neighborhood shopkeepers for help when locating residential gates. Long journeys demand generous travel buffers, while designated border zones and island territories mandate specialized entry permits.

Information technology, software development, and corporate research anchor the modern service sector, with Bangalore operating as the primary international technology center. English proficiency facilitates daily communication across professional environments and multinational offices. At the same time, informal employment dominates retail and domestic help, while agriculture sustains the rural workforce.

Tap water requires boiling or certified bottled supplies, making sealed caps an essential check for residents. Northern culinary routines centre on wheat flatbreads and spiced lentils, whereas southern regions drink drip filter coffee alongside rice dishes. State laws strictly penalize cattle slaughter and beef consumption across multiple jurisdictions, though coastal states like Kerala and Goa permit buffalo or cattle meat.

What is there to do in Cape Town?

A bit of history. Cape Town was discovered thanks to the search for a new trade route from Europe to India in the 15th century. The name Cape Town translates to "cape-city," located at the edge of the Cape of Good Hope. Today, more than 4 million people live in Cape Town. It is a port city in the southwest of the Republic of South Africa, situated on the Cape Peninsula, washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Table Mountain towers over the city, with a cable car leading to its flat summit. From there, you get a stunning view of the city, the harbor where yachts dock, and Robben Island, famous for its museum in the building of the infamous prison where Nelson Mandela was once incarcerated. My favorite activity was going to the shopping mall; you can have a delicious meal there, exchange money safely, and, of course, go shopping. There are 2 large malls in Cape Town: Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre and Canal Walk. I recommend visiting both, and the first one is located by the port, offering a gorgeous view of the ocean. Once, we were lucky enough to catch a Maroon 5 concert at the Cape Town Stadium (the very stadium where the 2010 FIFA World Cup took place)! Also, during my stay there, I managed to visit The Cape of Good Hope, Boulders Beach (a beach where penguins have lived since 1982), and Bo-Kaap (a neighborhood of colorful houses in Cape Town).

Let's stay in Philadelphia.

What can I say about Philadelphia? According to the internet, Philadelphia is the 5th largest city in America, with about 6 million people living in the city and its suburbs. It is also one of the oldest cities in the USA, so there are plenty of monuments and historical sites here. For example, the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were signed here, which the residents are very proud of. The western part of the city is called Old City, where it all began. Here you will find many old monuments, historical buildings, and cozy cafes. This area is home to the famous Independence Hall (where the first US Constitution was signed). The central part of the city impressed me, of course, with its skyscrapers. Before this, I had only seen skyscrapers in Moscow City, and I can't wait for my trip to New York. By the way, the photo shows not just a fountain, but a real geyser located right in the city center. In my opinion, the most beautiful area is the Art Museum. This is the famous museum that Rocky Balboa ran to. It offers a wonderful view of the city center. All tourists stand with their hands raised on the rocky steps to take the famous photo. Unfortunately, we were in Philadelphia for less than a day, but we managed to visit the main attractions of the city such as: Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, walk through Love Park, find the Belarusian flag on the Avenue of Flags, and enjoy the beautiful view next to the art gallery.

Travel

If I were to tell you about my travels, my friend Sam and I headed west. It wasn't easy to decide, given the short timeframe—her return ticket was 10 days earlier than mine. We managed to plan everything correctly and set off for San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. It was truly an adventure of a lifetime. We ran through airports, buses, and subways. We bought bus tickets directly on Greyhound online (it's much cheaper that way) and asked the station staff to print them for us. In San Francisco, we left my friend's luggage, bought an 11 PM ticket, and went to see the Golden Gate Bridge. We had no idea how to get there, how to get back to the station, and we were short on time. Despite that, we went. We were afraid we might be late and didn't know the bus schedule. But most importantly, we managed to take photos. We accidentally met a traveler from Dubai; he asked us to take his picture, and we told him, 'You know, we're in a hurry, we don't have much time.' He started asking questions and said he had a rental car and would be happy to drop us off where we needed to go. If it weren't for him, we definitely would have been late. We hadn't eaten since 7 AM and were starving; food wasn't included in the plane ticket price. We had half an hour left, we looked for shops, but didn't see anything. We ran into a restaurant—it looked upscale—and you should have seen our appearance: shorts, sneakers, a hoodie, and a bag in our hands. The waiter looked at us and was actually startled, giving us a look like, 'What are you doing here?' As for tickets, don't do what we did. Tickets from SF to Las Vegas were sold out, so we had to go through Los Angeles. We had to go to LA anyway at the end, since our return ticket to Boston was from LA. In Los Angeles, I found Palak from India on a website; he had recently moved from New York for work. He wrote that he would be happy to host us. It even turned out that he was in Vegas on the same day we arrived. He met us, took us to the city center, and even took our luggage to Los Angeles. Yes, yes, I trusted everyone, even though I was seeing him for the first time in my life, but my intuition didn't let me down. We walked around Las Vegas. A fantastic city. You walk into one hotel and forget about everything. Casinos, Bellagio, Caesars Palace... September 8th... In the morning, Palak met us in Los Angeles. Everything you've seen on TV is now before your eyes. Universal Pictures, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood, the best Disneyland in the world. We took a tour where they show the homes of all the Hollywood stars in Beverly Hills, like Bruno Mars, Johnny Depp, Avril Lavigne, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, the house where the great singer Michael Jackson died, the hotel where Whitney Houston said goodbye to life, and many others. September 11th... From the trip, I arrived in my native Hyannis, and my friend went to New York. After staying there for 3-4 days, I felt sad that all the students had left—some home, some to travel—and all the tourists had dispersed. I packed all my things, didn't wait for Saltanat, whom I was waiting for, said goodbye to everyone individually, and decided to leave. Everyone came to wish me luck and gave me souvenirs. It was very sweet. It was sad to realize that it was all over. When Matt and Katherine saw me off for the last time, Matt had tears in his eyes. He said, 'Wherever you are, I will pray that everything goes well for you'... Most importantly, I bought a ticket from Boston to New York, but I thought the latest one from Hyannis to Boston was at 10, but it turned out to be at 8. It was already 6 PM. Thanks to Mr. Richard, who, while picking me up, reminded me and suggested buying the ticket first instead of picking up the luggage. I managed to fit it into 2 hours, did everything necessary, stopped by Dunkin' and Stop and Shop to say goodbye to my colleagues, and was at the station 10 minutes before departure. The feeling that I might never return here and might never

Elementary (2013): Our bus arrived about 1.5 hours later than scheduled, around 8 PM. Having read that many students take a taxi and ask the driver to help them look for housing or take them to the cheapest hotel, we decided to do the same (we had no other choice, as we hadn't prepared in advance, and taxi drivers know the city better). So, we took a taxi, explained the situation, and he said it was his first time doing this, but he would try to help us (we didn't understand the rest of his words because he had a very strong accent; he was from India). The housing search was, to put it mildly, strange; he just shouted to passersby from the car asking if they had any housing for rent, and half of the Americans didn't understand him either. We decided to take matters into our own hands and talk to them ourselves. Unfortunately, we couldn't find housing, and most Americans just wanted to know how we dared to take such a trip. However, we did make one useful acquaintance: it turned out one of the passersby owned a cafe and often hired students in the summer, so she gave us her phone number and told us to call if we needed a second job. After 1.5 hours of searching, he took us to a Rodeway Inn (a common chain of affordable and comfortable hotels), which cost about $250 a week—a quite acceptable price for two. We decided to dedicate the next day to getting to know the city to navigate it better, and at the same time, we needed to look for housing, buy a SIM card, and, of course, go see the OCEAN!!!! I must say that we managed almost everything quite quickly, especially since Atlantic City is not such a big city; it is located on a rather narrow island where up to 10 streets fit along its length... The only problem that arose that day was finding housing because, in our search, we learned about all the areas of the city where we shouldn't go... there were 3 such areas: Latin American, Chinese, and African American. While in the first two they just looked at us with a 'you don't belong here' expression, in the latter, they told us directly: 'you better not walk here'... naturally, we understood the hint immediately and decided to end our adventure for that day, especially since we decided to go to work the next day. IMPORTANT: GUYS, IF THERE IS A POSSIBILITY, FIND OUT ABOUT THE CITY AREAS IN ADVANCE, ESPECIALLY IF IT HAS UNSAFE NEIGHBORHOODS. By the end of the week, we finally found housing using Craigslist, called the number listed in the ad, and a girl told us that 7 girls (5 Russians and 2 Romanians) were already living in the house and one room was empty. She also happily said she would help us move (i.e., she would come for us by car so we wouldn't have to drag our things across the city). I was incredibly lucky with my house!!! All the girls are SUPER!!! We still maintain warm relationships, visit each other, and the apartment wasn't bad—we had a great kitchen and even a laundry room. The only downside was one shared bathroom; as you understand, for 9 girls, that is very little, but fortunately, we had to go to work at different times. Now let's move on to the story about work: according to the offer, my position was described as a general clerk in a large grocery store like 'Auchan'. I thought I would either be stocking shelves or helping in the food preparation departments. But as soon as I arrived at work, all my dreams vanished at once. The manager said that a lot of students had arrived this year, so all he could offer us was a minimum number of hours (25 per week) and a job as a cashier. What horror I experienced after these words!!! After all, it is a great responsibility; besides, you need to have a good level of language proficiency, and you also need to constantly pronounce words like '33', '3', etc. This combination of 'th' sounds never yielded to me, but the main test was waiting for me ahead... To begin with, for 3 days I just sat at a computer for 3-4 hours a day and watched training videos (and all this was paid a

Patience and a lot of fun

I spent the summer of 2014 in the USA. It was my second trip, and it was just as deep in emotion and full of new discoveries as the first. During the Moscow winter, it's especially nice to look back on that summer, scroll through photos, and break into a huge smile at the slightest mention of my summer adventures. That's exactly why I want to share this with you, guys) Looking ahead, I want to say that this summer I became even more patient, organized, and confident. But let's take things in order. Since I kept in touch with my American employer from 2013, I preferred to save time and decided to go back to the same place. I worked as a housekeeper at a small Inn two blocks from the Atlantic coast in Spring Lake, New Jersey. The job came with perks like free food and incredibly pleasant guests (read: good tips and nice chatting), but there was a fly in the ointment. In my case, it was my boss. I tried so desperately to build a connection with a lonely fifty-year-old woman whose life goal was her work that I didn't notice how this ambitious lady started taking advantage of me. Before I knew it, I was tied up with overtime hours and a narrow social circle limited to guests, rotating staff, and my boss. But it wouldn't be right for me to complain; thankfully, I had access to the beach in my free time, as well as pay and bonuses that suited me just fine. Leisure wasn't a major issue for me, as Spring Lake is a tiny town where the only entertainment is the beach and insanely expensive restaurants. Which, actually, saved me from unnecessary spending, something I'm very happy about given the fall of the ruble) I definitely didn't lack communication with decent people. On the contrary, I made a ton of pleasant acquaintances! I still keep in touch with some of them, and I cherish that very much. To make a long story short, I finished working at the end of August and packed my bags for California. A year ago, I met a wonderful girl named Natasha who worked in Colorado; we had a great time in Washington, saw Niagara Falls, managed to lose my camera with all the photos at the end of the trip, and by some miracle found it in the M&M's store. But this summer, I couldn't find a travel buddy, so I went on my own. I think that was one of the main factors that made this trip so vivid. Because the tone for my entire solo journey was set by the wonderful people I was lucky enough to meet. Over three months, I made friends from Croatia, Thailand, France, India, the Virgin Islands, Italy, South Africa, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Spain, and I'm sure I've forgotten someone! Yes, of course, I am thrilled with California, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon. But I am incredibly grateful to every single person I met this summer, thanks to whom I still can't stop smiling when I remember my summer of 2014. #travel #USA #summer2014

together to a better future

Greetings to everyone reading my story regarding the W&T Program. My full name is Abildina Anelya, currently I am 19 years old. I was born in the Northern part of Kazakhstan, and lived in my hometown- Ekibastuz for 12 years, then from 7th grade till 11th I have studied and finally graduated a Kazakh-Turkish Lyceum for Gifted Girls in Pavlodar, and now I am a sophomore student at KAZGUU University. I know 4 languages which are Kazakh, Russian, English and Turkish. Also, I was self-studying Korean, and now, I’m learning French at the university walls. Honestly, I have such an indescribable love regarding new languages and cultures. I do enjoy watching youtubers such as Varlamov, or Anton Ptushkin, «ТОПЛЕС» and others. They film whole episodes about the countries they visit, tell their history and experiences the face with. This, I could say, the most entertaining way of time spending, plus it’s kind of business with pleasure thing. Now, after I finished scholar’s life and entered a student’s life, I immediately thought that I have to do something with my life, since I am becoming an adult. For me, school life and university life differ a lot. Personally, I could not wait to eventually graduate the school and it’s all because of a freedom and personal right of choice which now, I have at the university. With all that, I want to brighten my life myself, step by step, facing and learning through difficulties (and not) that could happen to me. I understand, and hopefully I am more than just ready to put as much effort as I am able to, to make my current dreams eventually become my reality. At this young age, I believe, that our generation can make unbelievable things and changes not just in our lives, but worldwide as well. We all are full of enthusiasm and charisma that can lead us to reach something in a highe degree. Personally, I believe in myself. This is why, I am applying to this program, to try my best to take a step forward to a better future. Frankly, The US was something frightening and unreachable my whole life, I was grown with Western music and TV series, as well as the other representatives of my generation, and that seemed to be beyond of my reality. However, after maturing, I realized that everything in this life is as possible as you allow to think about that in your brain. While searching information about the program, I suddenly stopped myself and imagined what is it like to take a plain to your dream city of New York, wake up every day to these beautiful sunsets, chat with an American, order from Amazon your favourite books in original, not just translated version and everything else that a person just can think of. I just want to see where not only influencers get the inspiration and motivation from. How do locals catch the vibe and what is it like to live a real American life. Moving onto the questions, what I hope to learn and achieve by enrolling to this program is the opportunity to travel abroad, to get to know the culture and mentality of the US. Indeed , watching Instagram stories from the phone and actually seeing everything with own eyes hits different. Honestly, what I am really into experiencing is the way of how I would act all alone by myself overseas. As was mentioned before, I have been away from home from early teen ages, and now, hanging that chance to be completely apart from even my country excites me in totally different way. I would like to see how stressful and mature I am, to see me grow by facing an enormous numbers of different life situations. After all, I think if I haven’t matured enough yet, there, I, 100% will. Also, one thing I want to get from this travel is increased list of soft skills. As we all know we only develop our soft skills by communicating every day with people. Along with these, I would like to test and look at myself after the journey. In what way have I changed, what perspectives do I hold now, what have changed considering my beliefs and stereotypes. This is going

International exchange program: now and in the future

Kubissenova Saltanat IEC Kazakhstan 8th group International exchange program: now and in the future There are many programs available today, in the twenty-first century, that offer the chance to travel, study and work abroad. We witness people successfully returning home after having participated in an international program, providing positive feedback, and recommending others to participate. The key to a future that is sustainable, one where the generation is educated and has a wider worldview, is giving students these possibilities. My university provided me with the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student in Lithuania last semester. At the age of 18 years old, I was a young girl who had never left her home country. Sincerely, it was quite challenging to be alone with strangers and away from home. However, over time, these random strangers turned into my closest friends. During my six-month study abroad, in Lithuania, Samantha and I lived in the same room. In a way, Samantha was my sister, or "sorella" in Italian. This second-year Italian master's student helped me adapt to the community at a foreign university and introduced me to other Erasmus students. It was wonderful for me to be acquainted with individuals from Turkey, Korea, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Indonesia, Morocco and India since they all had unique personalities and were a part of their different cultures. I made an attempt to manage my courses so that I could return to my former university with a satisfactory grade. At Kaunas University of Technology, where I spent the whole semester studying, we were taught how to learn more effectively. I found that studying in Europe is relatively simpler than in Kazakhstan, considering the practically identical educational system. For instance, we just took the midterm and final examinations at KTU, which felt more comfortable to me than the midterm, endterm, and final exams we take at my own university. Actually, I had four school courses in total, and they were all very different from one another. As a student of mathematical science speciality, I found learning about physics to be somewhat difficult. Despite this, I was able to pass each subject with honors, and I returned to my Suleyman Demirel university with pleasure. A trip to Copenhagen with my friend Elmira from Kazakhstan and two korean girls is among the memories I will not soon forget. We arrived at 7 a.m. without carefully checking our flight while the flight was scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. When we could not find our flight in the list of flights for the following two hours, we became really anxious. We asked the airport employees, after that we recognized our faults, and made the choice to wait for our flight. In the airport, we fell asleep while hugging our luggage. Nevertheless, we traveled about Copenhagen for two days, enjoying traditional delicacies and seeing the origin of the well-known Copenhagen Tigers store. I am delighted to get the opportunity and fulfill a childhood dream of mine by traveling to the city of love, Paris. Even at first glance, it is obvious that this country is a megalopolis with magnificent historical buildings that gives a completely European atmosphere, which I want to return to. Work and travel is one of the well-known programs that helps students find employment abroad and travel throughout the USA. Every year, this program sends a large number of students to America to pursue their dreams.
