About the place

An Art Deco tower originally built for corporate offices defines residential living within the Financial District.

The skyscraper rose as the corporate headquarters for the Cities Service Company, founded by utility magnate Henry Latham Doherty. Architectural firm Clinton and Russell departed from traditional classical work to shape the limestone tower in the Art Deco style, crowning the summit with a slender spire. Upon completion, the structure stood as the tallest peak across Lower Manhattan and ranked among the highest towers worldwide.

Converting the former commercial headquarters into residential apartments brought permanent domestic life to the Financial District. Designing the original tower required assembling compact masonry parcels and installing paired elevator decks to make vertical transit viable on a tight footprint. Long-term residents now inhabit historic office floors above narrow street canyons that empty out as commuter crowds disperse.
