About the place

Italian Gothic architecture defines the administrative headquarters of the national cabinet.

King Vajiravudh originally commissioned the estate as a private family residence for General Chao Phraya Ram Rakop under the name Baan Norasingha. Italian architect Annibale Rigotti planned the central villa with Venetian Gothic details modeled after the Ca' d'Oro palazzo. Sculptor Corrado Feroci and architect Ercole Manfredi later finished the project, adding a golden dome that encloses a statue of Phra Phrom.

Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram converted the compound into executive government headquarters during wartime administration. The premises now hold ministerial meeting halls, state reception chambers, and official foreign banquet facilities. Sustained political demonstrations have repeatedly targeted the gates, forcing cabinet staff to evacuate temporarily to airport terminals when street blockades halted normal operations.
