About the place

Vimanmek Mansion stands disassembled within the Dusit Palace grounds while structural restorations continue.

The residence originated on Ko Sichang before royal authorities dismantled the structure and reassembled it inside Dusit Garden. Constructed primarily from golden teakwood over a masonry base, the building merges Victorian neoclassical layouts with traditional Thai woodwork and distinctive kanom pang khing fretwork along the windows. Individual interior chambers received distinctive color treatments such as peach, ivory, and green.

After serving as a sovereign residence, the compound transitioned into royal storage before undergoing extensive renovation to house imperial heirlooms, photographs, and state handicrafts. Structural deterioration eventually prompted complete disassembly to replace unstable foundation pilings with concrete and steel. Official notices confirm that the reconstructed teak landmark remains permanently closed to general tourism.
