About the place

Dusit Palace established an open royal district designed around gardens and broad boulevards.

King Chulalongkorn commissioned Dusit Palace after European travels inspired a shift away from the congested Grand Palace compound. Designed with European architects and Prince Narisara Nuvadtivongs, the estate introduced open lawns and leafy grounds between Padung Krung Kasem and Samsen canals. The compound bordered by Ratchawithi Road and Sri Ayutthaya Road became the primary home for several successive Thai monarchs.
