The complex stands on Saadiyat Island as an initiative for mutual tolerance, uniting St. Francis Church, Imam Al-Tayeb Mosque, and Moses Ben Maimon Synagogue within individual structures. Its design draws directly from the Document on Human Fraternity, endorsed jointly by Pope Francis for the Catholic Church and Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb for al-Azhar. Planners configured the individual sanctuaries around an open communal pavilion.

Government leadership organized the initial diplomatic announcement at the New York Public Library before domestic ministers inaugurated the grounds for public use. Entrance remains accessible to all visitors without admission fees, allowing worshippers and neighborhood residents to enter each religious hall freely. Abu Dhabi Festival later commissioned orchestral compositions uniting Christian, Jewish, and Muslim musicians.
