À propos du lieu

Commercial maritime operations defined Zayed Port before urban restructuring shifted cargo traffic and turned the berths toward passenger cruise liners.

The deep-water harbour sits along the northeast shore of the capital and bears the name of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Abu Dhabi Ports built dedicated berths and crane infrastructure to handle heavy cargo and cold storage alongside maritime freight. The facility operated as the main commercial sea gateway for the emirate, anchoring trade networks before regional logistics shifted.

Freight traffic relocated to Khalifa Port in Taweelah, prompting local authorities to redevelop the waterfront into a terminal for international cruise vessels. Passenger liners from operators such as AIDA Cruises and Celebrity Cruises dock at the repurposed quays during winter sailing schedules. The maritime district also hosted competitive aviation events like the Red Bull Air Race along the open water.
