NEW YORK

After a month, it was time for my first travels. My most desired city was NYC. That was exactly where I dreamed of celebrating my birthday. Round-trip bus tickets from Peter Pan cost $140. New York made an incredible impression on me. It is a city that charms you from the very first minutes. It mesmerizes with the scale of its buildings and structures, amazes with its frantic rhythm, the incredible flow of people, and the contrast expressed in the combination of luxury life with marginalized people sleeping on the streets and piles of trash. New York is a real concrete jungle. Central Park is probably one of the few places with greenery and trees. Overall, I was delighted with the city. Must-visit places in NYC (with addresses): *TIP FOR FUTURE PARTICIPANTS: to make it easier to navigate in unfamiliar places, download offline maps) Excursion “Panoramic view from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building” - $41 (20 W 34th St, New York) One-hour ferry tour to the Statue of Liberty - $30. One of the most affordable. Includes arrival at the destination, a minute stop, and return to the pier. National September 11 Memorial & Museum. A complex built on the site of the destroyed World Trade Center (180 Greenwich St, New York) Brooklyn Bridge (Brooklyn Bridge, New York, NY 10038) Central Park (Central park) Times Square (Manhattan, NY 10036) Manhattan District 5th Avenue (a street where boutiques of famous designers are located; a symbol of American prestige and luxury) Wall Street — financial center (Wall Street) Grand Central Terminal (89 E 42nd St, New York) Broadway. Here, among the skyscrapers, are the offices of the largest American and global corporations. (Broadway) Rockefeller Center — a place known for the fact that the very same Christmas tree is installed there annually;). (45 Rockefeller Plaza, New York) St. Patrick's Cathedral (5th Ave, New York, NY 10022)

I woke up in New York....

The long-awaited day has finally arrived, my suitcase is packed... I am incredibly happy and filled with anticipation for what is to come... On May 24, 2017, I flew the Ufa-Moscow-New York route. Strangely enough, I ended up there on the same day... Already at the airport, I was overwhelmed with emotions because, firstly, I was living the same day twice, and I couldn't quite grasp where I was. This is it - the city of freedom, the city that had been on my iPhone case for 4 years, the city that everyone on the planet dreams of visiting at least once. Unlike many students arriving here, I was very lucky that my former classmate lives in New York. Naturally, I planned everything in advance and was greeted with open arms! At the airport, we took a taxi to Brooklyn, where she lives (a nice part of Brooklyn, not the one you're imagining). I spent only 2 days in this city, and to everyone's surprise, that was enough for me to see all its sights, except for the Statue of Liberty. The weather, unfortunately, wasn't great, but that didn't stop us, and we walked at least 20 km a day. You should have seen me when I ended up in Downtown Manhattan. It's an unreal feeling when you see such beauty. These aren't just tall buildings; it's incredibly beautiful architecture. And so these days flew by... It's time to move on... And there is more to come...

Inception

Good day to you :) Almaty Airport. June 2nd. 9 AM. I never imagined what it would be like to fly so far away from my loved ones, to the other side of the world. And yet, my dream came true - I am just a few meters from passport control! The internal struggle between joy and sadness didn't leave me until the first step onto the plane's ramp. This is it! Off to chase my American dream! :) My companion was a childhood friend who was the initiator of our trip. Back in March, some guys from the coveted NYC who happened to be among my Instagram followers kindly offered to meet us upon arrival. Dangerous, risky? Perhaps, but they were our own people, fellow countrymen. And so, having desperately slept through the entire flight, waiting for sleepless walks through the night "city of dreams," we finally arrived. Honestly, not expecting to see our newly minted guides. But then the door opens, and two breathless guys are scanning the airport hall... We hadn't even left the building when a completely new scent hit our noses: heavy, yet somehow familiar. New York spread its evening embrace. Of course, on the way, we couldn't believe our eyes: skyscrapers, buildings, people, highways, the Brooklyn Bridge... No matter how detailed I describe it, everyone will have their own bouquet of enthusiastic emotions :) Destination: a restaurant. It was completely unexpected, having arrived in America, to see a menu in Russian and mugs with national ornaments :) Yes, this is all Brooklyn. Not having had time to miss "our" food, we wondered why exactly here. The answer was: "By the end of the summer, you'll start going crazy without our dishes." Shrugging our shoulders, we didn't argue. After parting ways with the guys, we took a taxi towards Manhattan... Driving along the avenues, littered with hundreds of shops and cafes, I silently marveled at how familiar everything seemed... Surely everyone has had that feeling? Apparently, it's all the influence of Hollywood movies. After walking around, we were quite tired and went to a hotel in the Queens area. In the morning, we overslept breakfast at the hotel and headed to a nearby grocery store. How pleasing it was to the eye to see small, bright, and so cozy houses along the street. But Queens is a more "African American" area, so at first, it was a little scary. To avoid living on the outskirts of the city, book hotels and hostels in advance. We took about an hour to get to Manhattan by subway. But every time, returning after the huge metropolis to our secluded and quiet area, we felt at home :) The following two days in NY were spent in unity with the city itself and its residents. The free and welcoming mentality of Americans will win the heart of any resident of any post-Soviet state. And that is very encouraging :) Excluding the details about exploring New York, I will add that we were in search of relatively cheap tickets on Greyhound to the coastal town of Myrtle Beach, SC. I repeat, book everything in advance. Ticket found! $75, 15 hours, 4 transfers. Given the frantic pace of life in NY, we slept peacefully for almost the entire bus ride.

New-York

New York is an endless topic of conversation, a special world that, it seemed to me, lives by its own rules. It is also the most popular tourist city in the world. There are many places in New York that are a must-visit. But, unfortunately, I only managed to visit some of them. I will start, perhaps, with that tragic place known to the whole world – World Trade Center, where the Twin Towers once stood. Two fountains, symbolizing the tears and pain of the American people, serve as a reminder of those events. I think that anyone who has had the chance to visit New York will definitely visit this place. World Trade Center And how could I miss Lower Manhattan, Wall Street, and Times Square? Despite my limited time, I couldn't help but go there, and also take the opportunity to see the Statue of Liberty with my own eyes. The Brooklyn Bridge, all lit up, which connects two parts of the city – Brooklyn and Manhattan – left a huge impression. The narrow street of Wall Street led us to the huge bronze statue of a bull, which is the unofficial symbol of New York's Financial District and represents strength and assertiveness. Everyone strives to touch it for financial luck, which, of course, we did too)) Nighttime Brooklyn bridge Times Square is the most popular place in New York. A stunning sight – lights, advertisements, crowds of people, boutiques, theaters – Times Square combines all of this. I was amazed by the four-story M&M’s store with huge capsules of colorful M&M’s candies. I also really wanted to visit Central Park, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, but I didn't manage to… Well, that's a reason to return to New York and definitely see the rest with my own eyes ))) Times Square – pure madness M&M’s – that's what I love)
