Trip to Boston

One day, I got a message from the guys suggesting we go to a football match as a big group. At first, I thought for a long time whether to go or not; after all, the ticket was $75, not $30 or $45. Football, Liverpool, Sevilla—they meant nothing to me, just empty words. But I thought it was worth seeing a match with my own eyes at least once in my life, especially since these clubs are at the top of the football world. And as always, as it usually happens, the day before the game, I decided: I'M GOING. In the end, on the day of the match, we gathered: J-1 students and Boston University students. Meeting people, talking. It was fun. And when the match started, it was even more fun. The atmosphere, the fans in red, the shouts of "Liverpoooool" will stay with me for the rest of my life. The funniest part is that they lost to Sevilla 1:2. After the match, the J-1 girls from Hyannis headed back home, but I bought a ticket for the evening of the next day—it's Boston, after all, I had to see a lot, and I had big plans for the next day. I thought about sleeping at the station; it was a pity to spend $80 for one night. I arrived at the station, and instead of just sitting there, I decided to sort through photos from my camera, but I didn't have a pin for the memory card handy, so I started asking people sitting nearby. I ran into two of my compatriots and a guy from Kyrgyzstan. It turned out that the Kyrgyz guy studies in China, where I study, and it also turned out that we had applied through a mutual acquaintance, we are in the same group, and what's really cool—we had been messaging each other a month ago. What a small world. In the end, I didn't have to sleep at the station; the four of us went for a walk around the night city. A big city really empties out at night. There was no one around—well, actually, no. We ran into some black racists who were yelling at us, but we ran away*))) That's how, across the ocean, I was convinced once again that the world is really very small.

Yes, in London! You know, the place with fish, chips, and awful weather...

...Although the weather was surprisingly sunny and warm all week that I spent in London. Walking around London is a special pleasure. Tower Bridge is the most famous bridge in London, being one of the city's symbols. Tower Bridge differs from all other London bridges and indeed all bridges over the Thames in the following way: it is the lowest bridge on the Thames and the only one of all the bridges that is a bascule bridge. The bridge got its name due to its proximity to the Tower of London: the northern end of the bridge is located near the southeast corner of the Tower. St. Paul's Cathedral is located at the highest point in London. This largest Anglican church in Europe is the seat of the Bishop of London. The cathedral's dome has become one of London's main attractions. Traditionally, St. Paul's is the burial place of the most famous citizens of Great Britain, including the architect Christopher Wren, who built this cathedral. There is no monument on his grave, only an inscription on the tombstone: "Reader, if you seek his monument, look around you." You don't have to have royal roots, but you always want to see a luxurious palace. Especially if it's Buckingham Palace in London! The palace is unique not only for its grandeur but also because it hosts official ceremonies and events of the Royal Family, and tourists come here for tours. Although, it is almost always closed to the public. There are many museums in London: the British Museum, the Westminster Abbey Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum in London, and the Sherlock Holmes Museum. Admission is almost free everywhere. According to the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson lived in an apartment at 221b Baker Street between 1881 and 1904. At the time these works were written, such an address did not exist in London. But later, when Baker Street was extended to the north, a house with that address appeared, where the Sherlock Holmes Museum is currently located. Having lived in London for a week, I still didn't manage to see all the sights of this city. Too many museums, too many places to visit, too little time. But my journey didn't end there. Ahead are Liverpool, Blackburn, Chester, and Manchester.

It must be so nice to live in England...

After finishing my language school course, I decided to travel a bit and see the homeland of Shakespeare and Harry Potter. My first destination was Blackburn, Lancashire. When I arrived, I didn't find anything interesting... Absolutely nothing! :) I remembered a scene from the famous cartoon "Yellow Submarine". Upon ending up in nowhere, a place with holes, John Lennon said: "It reminds me of a place called Blackburn, Lancashire." He was right! Speaking of them... Fans of the legendary band The Beatles should definitely visit Liverpool to see The Beatles Story museum. You can play the drums with Ringo Starr and walk around that very yellow submarine! :) Liverpool is a port on the northwest coast of England, at the mouth of the River Mersey. A beautiful city! Next was Chester in the county of Cheshire. The history of Chester dates back about two millennia to the era of the Roman occupation of Britain. Chester is a very beautiful, historic city. It is surrounded by a Wall built by the Romans many centuries ago. And these Walls are now used as walking paths for the city's residents. There are many attractions in Chester: Chester Cathedral, the Walls, but the most impressive one to me was the main street. You can really feel the old England here! I managed to visit Stokesay Castle, which was built in the 13th century. Walking through this castle, it's very easy to imagine life and everyday existence in medieval England. A fairy-tale place!
