关于此地

The Servian Wall survives as fragmentary Republican defensive masonry cut from volcanic tuff across central Rome.

The Servian Wall formed the principal defensive circuit of Republican Rome, constructed from quarried blocks of volcanic tuff. Literary tradition credited the fortification to King Servius Tullius, but modern archaeological analysis disproved an archaic regal origin. Republican engineers erected the stone rampart to shield the urban core, creating a massive defensive perimeter around the early city hills.

Urban expansion eventually rendered the Republican fortifications obsolete as settlement sprawled past the ancient boundary. Imperial authorities superseded the circuit through the construction of the broader Aurelian Walls. Most original gates disappeared over time, leaving sparse surviving stone segments embedded directly beside modern transit infrastructure and residential avenues.
