Stepping into Central Park, I found myself in a true green corner of paradise. Walking through it, you recall all the movies filmed here (and there are a huge number of them—just look at the view of the Plaza Hotel, where famous films like Bride Wars and Home Alone were shot). Many spots offer beautiful views of the skyscrapers. The grass is perfectly green everywhere, and the trees are manicured. It is probably the cleanest place in New York; it is so clean that people walk barefoot, lie on the grass without a blanket, have picnics, or just read, relax, and dream. A sense of calm and romance reigns in the park, with the massive skyscrapers and all the hustle and bustle of New York left behind. Top of the Rock: You absolutely must visit this at least once in your life to see NY from an unreal height (69th floor) and take gorgeous photos for memories. Perhaps the view from Rockefeller is slightly better than from the Empire State Building. Firstly, you can see the Empire State Building itself perfectly, and secondly, you have a great view of Central Park. Tickets are not cheap, around $40-50 depending on the time of year and time of day; prices rise significantly before sunset, but it is worth it! The subway in New York is called the Subway. The New York City Subway is the largest subway system in the world by the number of stations. The huge number of lines and stations scared me at first, but Google Maps came to the rescue, where our entire route was laid out in minute detail. If you read reviews online about the New York subway, you'll be afraid to go down there. Everyone talks about the terrible condition of the stations, the dirt, and rats the size of dogs. Thank God I didn't encounter any rats, but otherwise, it's true. You won't see wide, clean, and bright stations like in Minsk. You will see uniformity and gloominess. You won't see marble, beautiful chandeliers, or mosaics here. However, I loved watching the people; they are all so bright, interesting, and completely different. You can meet anyone here: from ordinary workers with Starbucks coffee cups and Black musicians brilliantly playing jazz, to local homeless people or crazy individuals (there are a huge number of them here, believe me). On 08/29/2019, I watched my best sunset. There is nothing better than ending a day in New York by watching the sunset. There are many places in the city to enjoy this stunning spectacle. We decided to take the Staten Island Ferry. The ferry is free, and many people use it to take photos of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan from the bay. It runs from Manhattan to Staten Island and back. It takes half an hour each way. It runs frequently and there is plenty of space. You need to choose the side from which the Statue of Liberty will be visible, and then you can take a photo against its backdrop. But if you are specifically going to see it, it is better to take a special boat that goes to the very foot of the Statue of Liberty, because in reality, it turned out to be very small.

One evening, while walking through Manhattan, Lena and I stumbled upon a shop that I recognized from about 300 meters away. It's one of the most famous skate shops in New York - Blades. Ha, and of course, I didn't leave without a board, since my old one broke back in Rochester. That's how I found a way to pass the time while Lena was working during the day. I would skate at the skatepark on the beach in Staten Island, and towards the evening, I'd head to Manhattan, and we'd walk until late. I met a couple of guys, and we skated the streets together. Honestly, I thought that when I arrived, everyone here would be doing incredible tricks. As it turned out, that wasn't the case, and even I managed to impress the Americans with my skating more than once. It felt good. Anyway, that's how the days went in New York. I'd skate during the day, head to Lena's in Manhattan in the evening, she'd feed me crepes and coffee from work, and then we'd go for a walk. It was incredible. It was just so nice to do nothing, just hanging out on the streets of evening New York. I'm going to miss this city for a very long time.

We were so happy to be back in New York: for Lena, it had become home over the last few months, and I was still in awe of this city. The first thing to do upon returning was to find me a place to stay for the next 5 days in New York. A hostel was too expensive, and I couldn't stay with Lena. Oh well, let's keep looking. You won't believe it, but I found a place with a guy from Tajikistan. Lena has a work friend from Tajikistan, and he put me up with his brother. I am still grateful to him, as I saved a ton of money. Thank you for your hospitality. Anyway, that's how we returned to NY, and the housing issue was solved. Lena decided to pick up some extra work for the remaining days, as it turned out the trip to Vegas had hit our wallets hard. I lived on Staten Island, an island a half-hour ferry ride from Manhattan. This ferry is called the Ferry, and it's actually free. So every day I took a 20-minute train ride to the Ferry, then sailed for half an hour, and only then ended up in Manhattan. But that didn't bother me at all, because it offers a beautiful view of Manhattan. Also, we didn't regret spending $30 each to buy weekly transit passes so we wouldn't have to worry about transportation. It's really very convenient, considering that a single ride costs $2.25. And we rode the subway quite a lot. By the way, about the subway - it looks terrible, it's wildly stuffy, and New York itself is stuffy, but when you go down into the subway, it feels like you've ended up in hell. Huge rats leisurely crawl from one track to another. However, I fell in love with this subway immediately - it's very, very, very convenient. You can really get to almost any point in New York without breaking your head over it or wasting a ton of time. And in the subway cars, just like in all public transport, there is air conditioning, so the heat isn't that scary there.

Before this, everything was a bit more depressing. Let's start with the fact that I found a job. An awesome job. If only they paid for it... The gist: a computer repair shop is looking for a laptop repair specialist, or rather, not just for repairs. All you need to do is reinstall Windows, scan hard drives, clean them up, and install the necessary software. Is this work? It's a pleasure! So he writes to me: 'I have seven such-and-such laptops, they need to be polished up, blah-blah-blah.' Their payment system is much more interesting: first, they send me a check for the amount I requested + extra cash that I have to send via Western Union somewhere to California (or somewhere in that direction). Like, it's money for shipping the laptops to me and back. Several questions arise immediately: 1. Why the hell are they sending money before I've done the work? 2. Do I need to do the work if the money has already arrived? Well, God knows, you can encounter anything in America. Maybe if I cash the money and don't do the work, they'll dig me up from under the ground (and the Yanks can do that), since I'm cashing the money at a bank, and the bank has all my coordinates. Okay. A month has passed since they sent me the check. Honestly, I'd already given up on it. Even though I asked for $500 for the work, the check was written for $1500. A couple of days before that, I read on the internet about these scammers – they need a person to cash fake checks and send the remainder of the requested amount to the scammers themselves. The laptops don't exist. Two bank cards arrived, and damn it, my name is spelled wrong on both! 3 packs of coffee arrived, which they promised to send me a month and a half ago for participating in an online survey. Okay. Went to the bank, asked about the check, it's indeed fake. Didn't even bother asking about the cards, it's useless anyway. Went to the DMV, thought maybe it would work, it didn't; my name must be the same on all documents. Whatever, I decided to go home.

Oh, New York!!! A city that has everything, and where everyone finds something of their own! After 3 months of living here, you start to believe in the impossible; the rapid whirlwind of life constantly pushes you forward, there is absolutely no time to be sad or doubtful! Back home, looking at photos of New York, I thought it wasn't for me! I imagined it as a gray, big city where nobody cares about anyone else! I wanted to spend the summer somewhere closer to the sun, the beach, palm trees, and kind Americans—basically, in Florida! But my friends insisted on New York, for which I am extremely grateful!!! The first few days spent in a Chinatown hostel looking for housing and work cannot be called the best time! In those moments, I didn't really feel like I was in the capital of the WORLD! But as soon as we got to Manhattan—that was it... I already love New York! Our first acquaintance started with Times Square! OH!!! We ended up in a movie!!! Huge skyscrapers, bright billboards, even during the day everything was dazzling before my eyes! Of course, at night, Times Square is just cosmically unreal! One of our favorite pastimes is the big orange ferry to Staten Island! And you can ride it at any time, 24/7, for free! A whole half hour of magical views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty! We rode the ferry about 5 times over the summer) It's just a pity that we never caught it in sunny weather, but we also liked the romance of the overcast sky with lightning and rain) We even just rode it sometimes to sleep inside! We were just very sleepy, in a lazy mood, but we couldn't go home, it was a day off after all! One weekend, Ira and I took the ferry (as always, free) to Governors Island! A performance of a Shakespeare play was being held there! Having slept half the day, we naturally only made it for the last 15 minutes, but that's not the main thing... This island made a very strong impression on us! It was as if we had ended up in the times of Catherine the Great! It felt like no one had lived there for a whole century... old houses with peeling paint on the columns, cozy courtyards, whimsical shapes of trimmed bushes, sunny alleys! Interesting buildings resembling white-stone fortresses, a powerful circular fort, stone embankments! Literally at every step, we encountered something unusual... a huge green meadow surrounded by a moat, two cannons on a hill in the center, and even geese!... There were no shops or cars here... the only thing missing was aristocratic ladies in puffy dresses with corsets! Despite all this, you only had to look towards the Hudson River, and there it was... the modern world—the skyscrapers of Manhattan, surrounded by huge ferries (one of which resembled the Titanic). That's New York for you—a city of contrasts! Along the entire Hudson River embankment, there are picturesque parks with bright flowers and powerful trees! We loved these long walks along the embankment, or just watching the sunset while sitting on a bench! A particularly romantic atmosphere descended there with the arrival of the evening! We were drawn like a magnet to the soft, mysterious light of the streetlamps! And what an unforgettable feeling of freedom you experience every time you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge! Before this summer, I had never seen such beautiful bridges as in New York! It's worth writing a little about other districts of New York too! In a nutshell—it's sleepy Queens, fun Brooklyn, and wild Bronx! These are just my associations with these districts! In reality, every district (even Manhattan) has everything: entertainment centers, gang-ridden slums, and quiet, peaceful corners! The most interesting thing is that in New York you can meet people of many nationalities who usually live in separate micro-districts where they stick to their own way of life! Well, in two days of work on Staten Island, the Captain has mastered many professions, such as builder, gardener, and rubber carpenter whose weapon of choice is a razor O_o. There is even more to learn. It's nice to work with a person you understand, and who understands you. Of course, disagreements arise regarding the approach to the task, where the Captain's Russian soul doesn't exactly want to slack off, but if a rubber floor block sticks out by a millimeter, then who cares, right?)))) But no. You have to take all 4 last blocks and trim that millimeter, and there's nothing to cut it with except a small razor. Well, these are trifles, of course; otherwise, it's much more pleasant to work here than in that same Tatiana, because here they haven't offended me with the salary yet, they feed me well, and there is something to talk about and learn (in terms of printing). Yesterday was a day off, which was spent truly in a Captain-like way! A final raid was made to submit documents to the camp, and like, from Monday the Captain starts his studies, although if the group is overfilled, I will only go from next week. Then there was a shopping trip for clothes, where I got myself cool shorts and the first sneakers in my life (and some small things, a t-shirt, flip-flops to go to the beach). I can say from the bottom of my heart that 150 bucks were spent with pleasure. The Captain's eye is sharp! While the Captain was circling at the entrance to the Church Ave. station, looking for change (for some reason, the MetroCards at Church never accept bills) and chatting on the phone, he noticed an abandoned 20 bucks, picked it up, took off, and was gone xDDD. And the weather kept whispering... ...and listening to it, for the first time since I've been here, I took off to the beach. Sunbathed, swam, in short, I enjoyed myself for 2 hours. A little later, in the evening, Captain Ravshan proposed to go and have a beer. There is no better place for this than our old house. 20th floor, the span between the buildings, a breeze, and suddenly SUDDENLY O_o, thousands of fireworks start blasting not far from us, at the boardwalk. God knows what kind of holiday they had, but at least we could sit and drink beer without any pangs of conscience, saying it's a holiday)))). And finally, recommendations for those who still think that Brighton Beach is a rotten place and there is absolutely nothing to do there – find a big thick concrete wall (a brick one will do), step back 200 meters and RUN AND SMASH YOUR HEAD AGAINST THIS WALL. Coney Island is a historical and incredibly beautiful place. Even Manhattan doesn't leave such an aesthetic impression. So it's not for nothing that we live here.

We still can't get enough of them. However, there is a flip side to such freebies. Actually, it all started with the fact that from the beginning of the week there was a feeling that invisible mosquitoes were appearing from somewhere... then I stopped paying attention. After a week of these strange sensations, waking up in the morning all red, I WAS SERIOUSLY SCARED. Scared because it wasn't clear why this was happening. Either I ate something wrong, or who the hell knows. The situation was dampened by the weekend. Of course, the first thought is – I need to go to the hospital. Especially since I have insurance. So what good is this insurance to me? Does anyone here care? We call InterExchange in NY – “We have a day off, relax bro”. We call CMO Tyumen – the same thing. We read the insurance itself, call the number indicated there – it doesn't connect at all. LOL! Great, since everyone is so eager to help me... we call the nearest hospital: - Hello, is it possible to drop by for a shot of alcohol, I can pay with my insurance for 50k bucks. - American? - No. - Then we don't give a damn about your insurance. If you want, we can make you our local one, you will pay only 20-30 bucks per visit. - I'm already tripping over the threshold, I'm afraid I won't make it to you. I don't really want to throw money away for something unclear. I thought maybe it would pass on its own. I searched the internet for what it could be, and read something like “search your bed, not the internet”. I turn over my free folding bed, and there turns out to be a free zoo! Different breeds, colors... Well, I was certainly glad, firstly because it's not African plague, and secondly – I have pets! After sitting on a chair all night, the Captain thought that he simply wouldn't have enough blood to feed such a large family. And like in a fairy tale about how parents took their children to the forest to be eaten by wolves, I dragged the folding bed outside in the morning and anathematized the whole family. Moreover, these bedbugs had “Made in USSR” engraved right on them. Apparently, they immigrated along with Soviet settlers. You have to fight such a breed exclusively with the Soviet method – 10 kettles of boiling water. However, I spent the second night on a chair too, because while the folding bed was standing and drying, it suddenly started raining. Regarding the house and sneakers. The job search started to bear fruit. The Captain got through to a guy who needs his copying equipment brought back to life. Okay. Location: Staten Island. Somehow, half-asleep, on 4 trains and one bus, I hobbled to this Staten Island. At the bus stop, an old man, about 70, named Alexander, originally from Western Ukraine, picked me up. We went to his house, via a hardware store. In addition to setting up the equipment, the priority was building a small house in his backyard, where he wants to put a punching bag to work out xDDD. In short, instead of specialized work, today the Captain was in the role of a summer cottage builder. Preparing the ground, leveling the blocks, and assembling the frame took about 8 hours. It turned out quite well. When we finish, I'll post a photo. The Captain worked so hard that his left sneaker tore across O_o. Tomorrow I have to go there again. What's pleasing is that the work there is always different, but it's always there.
