About the place

Puerta de Europa defines the skyline of northern Madrid with twin inclined towers straddling a central transit artery.

Puerta de Europa consists of twin commercial office towers flanking the broad avenue near Plaza de Castilla. Known locally as the KIO Towers, the matching structures lean toward each other over the roadway and rank directly behind the towers of Santa Cruz de Tenerife among the tallest twin high-rises in Spain. Commuters recognize the site as the northern commercial threshold of the capital.

The landmark holds a prominent spot in screen culture, staging the rooftop finale of the cult horror film The Day of the Beast and appearing in international productions such as the Tamil feature Sivaji. The leaning facades also surface in popular video games and animation, including Mario Kart Tour and Mickey and the Roadster Racers. Long-term workers find a windy transport node dominated by banking traffic rather than leisure.
