Sobre o local

The Seagram Building redefined corporate architecture in Midtown Manhattan.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson designed the high-rise tower in the International Style along Park Avenue. Samuel Bronfman initiated the plan following the repeal of Prohibition, intending to house the Seagram Company. The project came together after extensive revisions urged by his daughter Phyllis Lambert.

Earlier drafts by Pereira and Luckman proposed a bulkier tower with an imported castle motif, drawing heavy architectural criticism. Lambert rejected those proposals and led the search for a new design team. The resulting skyscraper set a precedent for corporate headquarters across commercial districts in Manhattan.
