I will see all this, not in a dream! Hello, everyone reading my story! My name is Tomiris and in exactly 20 days (as of this writing) I will be 18. I am a first-year student of the West Kazakhstan Innovative Technological University in Uralsk, Kazakhstan. In the future I will become a specialized translator. Since childhood I liked studying languages, their features, noting the beauty of each, but I was especially interested in English. I began to learn it from the age of seven years and participated in many competitions, both in the city, and in the national. In grade 11 I dreamed of going to America, and began to prepare hard for the international exam IELTS in March 2022. I got 5.5 points when the threshold was 6.0. But I am not discouraged, I took the experience with gratitude because I improved my English to the upper-intermediate level while preparing for the exam. I think that today it is one of my most important achievements: an official confirmation of my knowledge by the British Council. Further I hasten to inform that by the time I am years old, I already have quite a good experience in the HoReCa sphere. In tenth and eleventh grades during summer vacation I worked as a waitress at a food court and, even in that position, I successfully used my knowledge of English while communicating with English-speaking guests at the establishment. Why did I decide to participate? Last May my brother Darkhan flew to America, Massachusetts under the Work&Travel program through your company and I was inspired by the idea. I started reading stories of guys from all over the world about their trip, what interesting people they met there, how they realized their dream, some even stayed to work there. This is my first reason for wanting to go there: to get to know their culture, customs and traditions, and to talk about ours. My funny story Once while traveling , I found guys from my country on social networks who traveled in the same city where I was .It was a rainy day and I had a raincoat and a huge backpack.The moment I got off the subway , I get my phone and started texting them to set up a meeting place .Suddenly I heard two guys talking in my native language, one of them asked the other "how do you spell McDonald's"?When I looked at them, our eyes met.It was raining and I couldn't see them.Since we were all in raincoats.I smiled and went on looking for wifi to write to those guys from my country.When I found the wifi and texted them, they said they were at McDonald's!I laughed and went there.And I saw those guys on the road .It was funny to see them there. Why I want to participate in this program? The most important goal of my participation in the program is travelling and culture exchange.An opportunity to see America at such a young age.This program allows us to be happy and spend our youth traveling and being free .To be so free and not be afraid of other people's judgments. AMERICAN DREAM OF KAZAKH GIRL Hey there! Hope you are having a beautiful day! If you’re not, I bet you, this essay will cheer you up! I am Alua, a little dreamy girl from small town in Kazakhstan and also bold woman who is getting all her dreams come true. I’ve been living in Earth Planet for almost 18 years by now. In this essay I would like to share my own story about a small and funny trip and my fare thoughts about everything! How the things got started When I was at elementary school my relatives used to travel all over the world, they have seen the oceans, seas and mountains. 11 year old me was so interested in it and asked my parents to see the lake. I couldn’t ask for anything else. And my parents couldn’t afford anything better, because they were literally broke. When the summer came my parents told me that we’re going to Issyk kul . That’s a mesmerising lake located in Kyrgyzstan. So that was my first time when I was on cloud nine and felt like a cool girl from Vogue who is travelling to “foreign” countries. We were group of 6 people and used to live in yurt with other travellers for almost 14 days. I was browsing so many stores with my mom without buying anything and we were hanging around enjoying the local food and city. In the evenings we were swimming in the lake and just appreciating the sparkling water. Once upon a time, in early morning, I thought about going to the lake without my phone. I grabbed my book, hat and sheet to relax and chill out on the coast. After 2 hours of having a rest I was thinking about getting back to the yurt to eat my breakfast. But I forgot the way back:) I was stressed as hell, walking around big coast just to find my parents , but they didn’t appear. I didn’t remember the name of the street, or the yurt number. But I found the best way how to find my parents. Nah, I wasn’t waiting for them on the coast, anyway I entered all yurts and asked if there were my siblings or parents. Finally, I could find them by their flip-flops after 2 hours of searching! And you guess what?! I met a bunch of lifeguards who were searching for me too, cause my family thought I got drowned. In the end I got a big slap from my mom. It all might sound ridiculous, but actually I was living the best part of my childhood and I was definitely the happiest person in the world. Why I decided to participate in Work and Travel program? When I was studying at 2nd grade of elementary school I was lucky to have a teacher who was smart, very kind and soft to kids. By the way, my teacher was from America and she had a spectacular american accent. She taught us how to sing the alphabet like “A-B-C-D-E-F-G”… I sang it with her and she was teaching us for some basic words in English, but I could not understand the single word. Can you imagine?! American girl who speaks only English and does not understand kazakh or russian and kids who don’t know her language, holy crap! Anyway, I was having fun and enjoying my English classes. I remember that I was dreaming how I will speak English fluent and teach it to others. It turned out that I got my IELTS certificate and got a job as an English Teacher and now I have so many lovely students, that’s what I am passionate about! At high school I found the page of blogger Marina Mogilko and discovered such a stunning city San-Francisco and that became my dream city. 50 states of America seem like a dream and my future destination for summer of 2023. Big dreams and shattered plans When I was in the 10th grade, I became interested in Western culture. I watched films, series, read a lot about the USA and life there. And I decided to live the American life at least a little. And for this I had only 1 opportunity, this is to enter there. I was preparing for exams, taking them one by one. But when it came to the SAT exam, it was canceled due to covid19. At this point, I lost the whole point of working on this dream. Now I am studying in Almaty, thinking that I have already missed my opportunity to fly to the United States and at least see American life a little. Life is a Big Journey Prologue: After the COVID-19 which started in November 2019 in Wuhan, China, people’s lives changed dramatically. The simplest manner of life which we represent as the routine five days of work, trips to the cinema, traveling across the countries and other aspects ceased to exist. The complex virus turned the world upside down. The global community, including each country with its fear of loss of human life, started to tackle this vital problem. However, the pandemic brought the travel aspect to a halt. 2 years past, even after vaccines and precautionary measures people are still scared of returning to the previous standards of life, which seemed to be simple before. Introduction Nowadays, in such a complicated society, everyone tries to fill their life with different colors of entertainment. It could be about doing sport, playing video games or traveling. For the whole history of mankind, traveling has been an indispensable part of anyone who wants to explore something new. Already in ancient times, the peoples of the Mediterranean had geographical descriptions that gave a general idea of the neighboring territories. But what traveling truly means? How does it affect the traveler? Speaking a business language is about going to another spot, it could be a village, city or country. However, traveling is not about business. Traveling is a fantastic method to gain a lot of life experience. Every year, a large number of people travel all across the world. Additionally, it is crucial to visit people. Some people travel to expand their knowledge, while others go to escape their daily lives. Whatever the motivation, traveling allows us to experience a wide range of activities and open up a whole new world to us. As a student, it is true that the government of every country is enhancing the life standards of students, expanding new directions to explore. One of those directions is an international exchange program. Travel among students has a well-known social influence. This explains why it is such a well-liked strategy for educating children and piquing their intellectual curiosity.These courses have been created to help students learn at a completely new level. However, the major objective is to push them above their comfort zones so that they can improve both personally and academically. People mistakenly believe that exchange programs are only for the purpose of learning a new language, despite the fact that they have many other advantages as well. Although it is unquestionably one method, this program has other components as well. One must recognise the cultural component that broadens their understanding of the world outside of their own and heightens their sense of global perspective. Memories From my memories, being a student at school, I am pretty sure that everyone was inspired, watching American TV shows, movies and tracking the hobbies of their peers. Being accepted to a college or university in the United States is still considered a prestigious future for the students at school in our country. I will not separate myself from this stereotype, but I also considered that it is far away from my home and expensive as well. One day, sitting at school, I received the mailing in the class group chat about a two week internship in the best writing University of Iowa. The competition was held on International level so I had huge doubts about the success of this idea. Nevertheless, I applied in good faith, hoping that my story will somehow interest people. Sometimes, spontaneous decisions are the best. Being accepted to the International Exchange Program organized by the United States Embassies, we had unforgettable two weeks with the best young writers around the world. It was the first time I was crossing the continents, but my fear was tackled by the interest and curiosity of going to another country.
