The reconstructed portal anchors the southern axis of the old outer city perimeter.

Ming dynasty builders erected the defensive complex to guard the outer boundary of the capital and secure the southern approach. The fortification stood at the terminal point of the urban meridian until municipal transport initiatives dismantled the masonry. City planners cleared the historic structure to expand road systems.

Municipal authorities rebuilt the gatehouse on its historical footprint, restoring the southern landmark to the urban layout. The replica stands apart from the surrounding traffic lanes and remains separate from the former imperial road corridor. Long-term residents use the landscaped grounds for walking rather than transit.
