About the place

A purpose-built football ground defines matchday rhythms on the outer boundary of Józsefváros.

Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion stands on the edge of Józsefváros as the home venue for MTK Budapest and the Sándor Károly Football Academy. Bord Építész Stúdió designed the compact football arena with input from Sportarchitects and Azmpl, replacing an older municipal stadium following full demolition of the original floodlights and stands. The project relied on prefabricated concrete components to accelerate construction.

Inside the seating bowl, spectator chairs on the east and west stands feature white, light blue, and dark blue patterns arranged unpredictably across rows to disguise empty areas during low-turnout matches. Inaugural play brought Sporting Clube de Portugal to the pitch for an opening exhibition before domestic league fixtures commenced. Spectators reach the turnstiles using the tram line running along Hungária Boulevard.
