À propos du lieu

Excavations in coastal Jumeirah revealed an Abbasid settlement that anchored regional trade routes centuries before modern expansion.

Dimitri Baramki conducted the initial excavations here, uncovering remnants of an urban stop dating to the Abbasid era. The architectural complex includes the foundations of an ancient mosque, a caravanserai for traveling merchants, and stone residential buildings. Dubai Culture and Arts Authority manages and preserves the grounds today, protecting the stone structures amid the low-density coastal district of Jumeirah.

Excavations across the site yielded glazed pottery jars, domestic plateware, bronze coins, and worked glass and stone artefacts. These findings demonstrate an active trading stop connected across regional desert and maritime networks. Newcomers residing in surrounding Jumeirah find quiet suburban streets where historical preservation zones directly border private villas rather than the commercial high-rises typical of elsewhere.
