À propos du lieu

Wat Phra Sing anchors urban monastic life within the historic walled centre, maintaining active royal status and venerated Buddhist relics.

King Phayu of Lan Na established the monastery to inter the funerary ashes of his father Khamfu, brought south from Chiang Saen into a dedicated stupa. The complex originally carried the name Wat Lee Chiang Phra because of the civic marketplace operating outside its perimeter. The current name took hold after King Saenmueangma enshrined the sacred Phra Phuttha Sihing statue, which arrived from Chiang Rai via Kamphaeng Phet.
