À propos du lieu

The Former Bank of Japan preserves classical masonry in the central business quarter. Thick reinforced concrete protected the interior during the atomic blast, leaving the building standing while surrounding wooden districts vanished.

The Former Bank of Japan stands as a rare pre-war stone structure in the middle of downtown Hiroshima. Heavy classical stonework and reinforced concrete shielded the interior during the atomic bombardment, preserving the original teller counters and basement vaults. The municipal government operates the property as an open civic exhibition space rather than an active commercial office.

Long-term arrivals discover that the building functions as an everyday landmark rather than an isolated monument. Daily commuters walk past its bronze shutters between Hondori shopping arcades and central tram stops, using the stone facade as a routine reference point. Verified community hosts across surrounding neighborhoods provide lodging options for visitors planning extended stays.
