Blue blood

"Everything will go your way now." That was the message from my fortune cookie when they served hot dinner on the Aeroflot flight. It's great that they come up with these encouraging things. You realize they can't possibly influence your luck, but at the same time, you naively hope that this message is meant specifically for you. Who knows, maybe a piece of dough really can become a companion to my luck? Of course, it's unlikely, but if you believe it, it will be so. And you also have to put in a lot of effort. Because luck cannot exist without movement. I run. From everything that has strings attached to the real world. It's temporary, useless, but it allows me to live another life. Because it's boring to be locked in one reality all the time. We are the same, but life is different. And how it accepts us is the most interesting thing. Beginners have luck. Let it be so! There are two absolute reasons why I wouldn't want to leave here: the ocean and the balcony with a glass table and a view of the bay. In the morning, you can observe the peace that has crept into every rare tree on our island, into every protruding rib of water from the wavy wind... The deep calm is disturbed only by the eternally alive bridge connecting the island to the mainland. At night, it is full of movement and light. Polished beetles with burning eyes rush to work, on vacation, towards a new life, towards good and bad news... Movement, movement... Light is needed for movement. There is always light in our living room. In the mornings, it floods it up to the hallway, and in the evenings, it barely reaches the kitchen. It slowly slides off the knives and spoons in the cutlery holder, flashing with blades, playing with sparkles on the fins of a poor fish in the aquarium, for which this is the most incredible event of the day, approaches tanned hands and salty hair at the table, throws itself onto the pillows of the black leather sofa, the scratches of which, like deep wrinkles, are shyly covered by a coffee-colored blanket, and then the sun reaches the balcony, passing every ray through the ribbed blinds... These uneven black gaps on the floor resemble a torn harp. Its strings are made of shadows, and the body is woven from sunlight. As soon as the wind touches the pliable slats, the whole structure sways, and it seems that someone is plucking the strings of a damaged instrument... I run. Then a push - a second wind, the body has awakened, energy poured into the body like a cold stream and forced me to speed up. Running along a narrow strip of sidewalk near the road is not very pleasant, the asphalt is soaked with sun, and traffic lights are found on almost every street, you have to stop either because of human conventions or because of the impossibility of nature's whims. I turn towards the residential sector in the hope that I can run calmly to the bay there. A clan of cyclists whistled past me, crushing the grass with ribbed tires. Because I am running towards them, the noise doubles, as if a whole field of singing cicadas is chirping. A tart, naked sound. Suddenly, the ringing of Chinese bells on someone's door crept into this summer. The complete opposite of the crackle of bicycle tires. It penetrated the first sound, mixed with it, as if crystal vials were swaying over a flaring fire. If I ever hear this duet again, the low panel city of Ocean City with bicycles chained to fences will immediately appear before my eyes. And then I notice these creatures. They remind me so much of my childhood, when my school friend and I saw huge scorpions in the bushes near our house. I still partly believe that it was so. I still dream about them sometimes. But seeing these giant crabs, I first thought they were dead stingrays. As if the path to the ocean was blocked by boulders, and they died. Their shape is exactly like a stingray: a blunt nape and a wedge-shaped tail. And even the name is appropriate - horseshoe crab. Anyone can say that you need to love all of n

We are from Kazakhstan)

With all my respect and love for Americans, I could never understand what they are taught in school... okay, maybe they don't know where Kazakhstan is, but have they really never even heard of the existence of such a country? Very often, clients and just people on the street would ask where we were from, and our dialogue always looked something like this: -Where are you "from", guys? -Oh, we are from Kazakhstan! -What? Kazakistan? -No, no, Kazakhstan! -Kazakistan? (complete bewilderment in their eyes) -It’s near Russia! -Oh, Russia! I know! -But we are from Kazakhstan…It is another country near Russia. -?! (again, complete bewilderment) -Ok, Russia…We are from Russia!)))) Or some people would immediately recall the painful-to-all-of-us movie "Borat" and try to see something of him in us... And so, we had to explain to them that the whole movie is just a bad joke and in reality, our country is just as normal as America... and our people are normal... and sheep don't run around the house! It's annoying, damn it! Most of all, I liked meeting students just like us... On the very first day of our stay in Cody, we met a girl from Kyrgyzstan, Nazgul. It was from her that we learned that there were a bunch of students in town from Jamaica, Ukraine, Romania, Taiwan, Turkey, and so on... It was very nice to talk to someone else who knew Russian. Then we met her friend Nargiza, girls from Romania, a guy from Georgia, Serbia, guys from Turkey (well, more on that later). We worked together with guys from Macedonia and Bulgaria. Hearing them speak for the first time, it seemed to me that it was some kind of Tajik language) But in reality, it turned out that our languages were actually quite similar. The Macedonians and Bulgarians themselves communicated with each other not in English, but in a mixed Macedonian-Bulgarian. But despite the similarity of many words in our languages, neither we understood them, nor did they understand what we were chatting about... Although, having learned that our languages were somewhat similar, Aseka and I became more careful and didn't talk about certain personal topics in front of them) But in general, it was cool to walk down the street, calmly chat loudly about all sorts of nonsense, and be sure that no one would understand you anyway)

Just 8 hours... Just me and London...

30.06.11 06.00 RU =) The Russian version of blah-blah-blah is being read by Luna Lovegood! For real! =)) I'm on a plane with an Englishman. Cool, huh =) A beautiful sunrise in Moscow, everything is great. And it's a good thing I don't have an iPhone, or I would have tweeted my whole feed! He-he. Ok., rolling towards the sky... 30.06.11 15.00 (UK) Oh, am I a silly fool or what?!! I'm not me if I don't have some kind of extreme situation when leaving for somewhere. And the further I have to go, the more extreme the situation gets before the trip 0_0. OMG... Well, that's it, I'm sitting on the plane. Looks like a Boeing 747. Cool and all that. Both flights gave me some stupid seats. Apparently, window seats are only for first-timers =) Well, sooooo! They actually let me into London!!!!!! A-a-a-a! It's amazing and I am, naturally, in love forever. Oooo =) I had to fill out a paper, I talked to three whole employees, explaining that I want to see their beautiful country, that my things are on another plane somewhere, that I'm flying to the United States and I have Work & Travel there. And the last gentleman even asked how much money I have. I don't know how much they need, but I had $300, and my answers satisfied them =) Wow =) Already on the way to the subway I was insanely happy about this event. I bought postcards and water at the airport to get some pounds. Then a ticket for the subway for 5 pounds. A woman advised me to go to Piccadilly Circus. Well, that's where I headed =) At first everything was as usual, but then the subway went outside. Result - a bunch of photos of little houses from the window and a stiff neck on one side =) Heh. An hour ride. There are other ways, but they are more expensive, like 3 times more. In general, that's it. I'm getting out of the subway! I just can't contain my excitement!!!! A-A-A- I'm in London! A-a! In short, I stood there and spun around in puppy delight and amazement. It's just that the place is such that everything around is really beautiful. Everything-everything! A huge fountain, pubs, cobblestones. I took pictures of the beauty, then decided to capture myself too for history. One smiley woman offered to help, I didn't refuse. Result - the first cool photo of me and London =))) At the exit from the plane, I took a useful little book with all sorts of events, places, a map of the subway, the city, and a detailed center. And a list of places that are famous and must be visited, since you've dropped by the UK. I studied it a little bit in the subway, roughly marked where I would definitely go. But when I got out of the subway, I just went somewhere, because a) everything is beautiful everywhere b) everything is within walking distance. I ended up at Trafalgar Square with the National Gallery, with another cool fountain, lions and... police officers (Getting ahead of myself: I spent a long time circling these cool policemen or whoever they are with their cool helmets?) >> I spun around there, I don't remember the exact order anymore, it will be possible to restore the chronicle from the photos, but I repeat: who cares! everything is cool everywhere (!) there! Yes-yes-yes - these red telephone booths, buses, typical cars... I saw Westminster Abbey. And in general, it was funny to end up in an English textbook and a postcard at the same time! It was all so unrealistically cool!!! The only downsides were the weight of my hand luggage - a huge backpack, a bag and a package + a camera around my neck (at least it's not a pro one =)) I'm not complaining about the short amount of time in principle. So how much pure time did I get? 9.30-13.10 (really? I'm probably confusing something... 0_0 no, that's right! I did and saw all this in that much time?! Well, really Harry Potter, nothing less. Checked all the necessary boxes - take a photo with officers √ take a photo with a booth √ buy souvenirs √ It would be nice to ride a double-decker bus, and I still haven't figured out where the famous postcard

Interview examples

I've collected the most interesting interview examples in one place; I don't think the guys will mind. --1-- C: Hi! Me: How do you do! (not thinking, not waiting for him to ask, I shove the DS-2019 at him!) C: How’re you? Me: Pretty good C: (didn't hear anything and asks again) How’re you? Me: I’M FINE! C: OK Are these documents yours? (shows my forms, photo) Me: Yes C: Are you sure? Me: Yope! C: Where’re you going to work? Me: M.P.company,Ww,NJ. C: Who is the governor on NJ state? Me: ??? I’m sorry? I don’t remember! C: And who is the president of US? Me: B. Obama! C: All right, and what do you study? Me: (I heard 'where') Kazan Cooperative Institute C: NO! I mean what do you study?? Me: Oyy, economics! C: Who is the minister of economics in Russia? Me: Uhhh… German Gref! C: Very well. Your English is good. And what’s your favorite movie? Me: (blurted out the first thing that came to mind) Comedy – Home Alone! C: Oy, you mean Home alone. Do you really like it? Me: YES! (I just love it) C: OK You’ll get your Visa! Everything is fine! Have a nice summer! Me: Good bye! (I wasn't standing as taught – straight, but leaned on the windowsill) C: Have a nice… I didn't hear the rest as I walked, no, I flew to the exit! --2-- -Officer: Hello -Me: Hi (smile!!!) -O: So… let me see… You are an exchange student, aren’t you? -M: Yes, Sir -O: And what are you going to do in America? Are you going to work? -M: I'm going to work as a waitress at an Italian restaurant. You may laugh, but working as a waitress has been one of the dreams of my life. Indeed, every time I am at the restaurant with my parents or friends, I want to be at the place of the waiter. -O: (The officer actually laughs) Well, it’s a hard job, believe me! -M: Yes, I’ve heard about it. Well, I’ll be given an opportunity to try it out! -O: Were do you study? -M: (then with an elegant gesture, the student ID, record book, and university certificates are produced, and an ode to Alma Mater begins) I’m enrolled in the program of the Russian-French University which means that I am a student at the Linguistic University of NN, where I study French and English, and at the Economics Department of the NN State University. That’s why when I graduate in two years I’ll be given two diplomas! -O: (Business-like, flips through the record book, looks at stamps in the student ID) I see…Very nice…May I have a look at your previous passport with the previous visas? This is the new one, isn’t it? -M: Yes, the passport that you have is new, because the old one has already expired. Here is my old passport. (Old passport is given, the officer flips through it, stamps the old US visa “Canceled without prejudice”). As you see, I've traveled a lot in my life. I've been many times to Europe: Germany and France. I strongly believe that travelling is the greatest thing in the world! One gets to know other cultures, mentalities, meets new interesting people and practices the language. Alone changing the atmosphere makes it worth to go on trip! -O: Ok, well…thank you, your documents are all right, everything is fine and you can pick up your visa within few days. Good luck and have a nice trip! -M: Thank you. Bye! --3-- C: Good morning. (barely looked at me, rummaging through papers) Me: Good morning. (smiling broadly.) C: Summer Work and Travel, right? Me: Right. C: So, last summer you were...? Me: Tennessee, Chattanooga. (extremely honest face) K: Excuse me?.. Me: TENNESSEE! C: Oh, oh, ok, I see. Tennessee. Last time you came back late.... Me: (heart drops into my boots, bad thoughts creep in, keeping the smile is getting harder). K: ....October, 15... Right? Me: Yes, sir. K: You missed some classes, right? (threateningly and with pressure) Me: I keep the remnants of my composure and... suddenly blurt out in a surprisingly calm tone: No! K: (puzzlement on face) – No??? But your classes start....? Me: Oh, sure, the first of September. But first two months our schedule is rather unstable, classes are not ver

Preparing the documents

I have received three US visas. The last one was a J-1, the very one needed to participate in the Work and Travel USA program. Back in the day, I did some serious internet surfing to make sure I was prepared for the interview. Here is all the info you will need. America is easy! The embassy is the final stage of the program process. After that, it is just packing your bags, looking forward to an unforgettable trip, and choosing the song you will listen to during takeoff. General information about Work and Travel USA is here, and all the steps before the embassy are on the forum. Getting ready Before the embassy Before you are called for an interview, you must fill out the DS-160 form on the official embassy website. Filling out this form correctly is super important, so the center has described this procedure step-by-step here, and if you have any questions, check the forum; there is a lot of information there. It is best to use the Firefox browser to fill out the form; download it from the official website http://www.mozilla-europe.org/ru/firefox/. You will also need a photo taken according to specific requirements. The center should have emailed you how to take the photo correctly, or you can check here. The photo must be in digital format. At the embassy You need to take the following to the embassy: 1. Job Offer (if already received) 2. Student ID 3. Grade book 4. Passport In general, the center will definitely send you a list of the documents you specifically need. They have everything organized perfectly. You always know what to do next. So, everything is ready, let's go to the embassy. http://workandtravel.iec.ru/files1/e-WT.pdf http://www.iec.ru/forum1/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5682&sid=a7167d4a955fc337fc3635ede89ec315 http://russian.moscow.usembassy.gov/niv-ds160info.html http://www.iec.ru/forum1/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6692&start=75&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B0+%D0%BD%D0%B0+%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B7%D1%83&sid=611b6cd6cb1b628c4811aa9d34108284 https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AYdK_I_LTw9oZGdkczhkNDNfNzBkNjdzYjQzdA&hl=en

Let's go

09/02/2010 A winter vacation day... everything is calm and somehow even boring. Checking my mailbox out of habit, there's an email from IEC. I read the content.. So much for calm and boredom! Oh no, I have an interview at the consulate in a week! And I'm not even mentally prepared... plus, I'm 3,000 km away from Yekaterinburg!!! And I still need to stop by Omsk to finish my exams. It's 2 days to Omsk, then 12 hours from Omsk to Yekaterinburg... a total brain explosion... Frantic search for tickets, making arrangements with friends, and only by evening did I calm down a bit... but I still couldn't stop shaking... From 09/02/2010 to 13/02/2010, I digested a ton of information from all sorts of forums and websites. About English proficiency, sample questions, what to do and how... Why I was so worried, I still can't understand, since I had already gone through an interview at the embassy before... but I wasn't this nervous back then... 13/02/2010 I got on the train... and left... I haven't translated as much text into English in my whole life as I did during those two days... 14/02/2010 I'm in Astana... need to wait for the next train... and it's not exactly Valentine's Day when you're sitting at the station all day in a strange city... 15/02/2010 Finally, I'm in Omsk.. looking absolutely terrible (after 2 days on the train), I had to go to the university to finish my exams... good thing it went quickly. I also needed to meet a friend who bought tickets for me to Yekaterinburg. He also showed some originality - he decided to give me the tickets at a beer tasting. Maybe it wasn't so bad; the beer relaxed me a bit and tempered my fears and worries. So, 22:30 Omsk time.. entering the station, I hear here and there: Do you have an offer yet?/ Yes, yes, I'm going as a lifeguard too!/ My name is.../ Consul/Consulate, etc. Yes, there are many of us like that )))... or rather, 28 people were leaving from Omsk that day, although some of us left during the day, and the second part was leaving at night... After meeting the guys who were traveling alone (I was traveling with a friend), we all went to board. The evening was tense. Another reading of the pamphlet about our rights, repeating questions, English speech.. or rather, a broken parody of English speech throughout the carriage.. and a neighbor - a demobbed soldier... who denied the possibility of our trip with his whole being... yes, patriots haven't died out in Rus yet =))) We all agreed that it's much more convenient to speak English when you don't want those around you to understand... ))) With this thought, I fell asleep... 16/02/2010 Judgment Day When I woke up, I was glad that the neighbor was no longer there. There was a blizzard outside. The mood - not great... After having tea with the guys.. we talked about something again. And started getting ready. For me, this trip was also strange because I didn't take any things with me at all, except for documents. I had never traveled so light before. It turned out to be so great! Leaving the station, we got a little confused about how to get to the subway. But after figuring it out, we quickly got to the consulate. But we still had a lot of time before the interview, so we went to warm up in the nearest coffee shop. We went through another session of "group jitters" there and at 13:30 set off towards the consulate. (The interview was scheduled for 14:00) At the consulate, we met the second part of the Omsk group and found out our entry order. It was very cold to wait. I was so frozen that I didn't understand what I was shivering from, the cold or the excitement. All the guys left their bags on the street, and we (who hadn't gone in yet) watched them. I stood on the street from 13:30 to 14:50 in 10-degree frost. It's very long and cold. And finally, it was my turn. Because my hands were so frozen, my fingerprints wouldn't scan. And the young man at window #2 said that I should warm my hands and then the consul himself would take my fi

3. PREPARING DOCUMENTS

"The chains of tormented mankind are made of office paper." F. Kafka Now I want to share some tips with you regarding the visa application process. This is a rather boring stage on the way to getting a visa, but as practice shows, it is inevitable) A student is assigned a time and date for an interview after completing the application form. All applicants must fill out the DS-160 visa application electronically directly on the website https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/. Instructions for filling it out are available to every participant on their personal page on the website http://exchange.iec.ru. Everything is described and explained in detail there.)) After filling out the DS-160 form, the information will be sent electronically. After submitting the information, the applicant must print out the confirmation page. This page contains the applicant's personal information, as well as a barcode with the confirmation number. By the way, a small tip: save the entered data frequently, as the site often reloads. You can then upload the previously saved data directly on the site and continue filling it out from where you left off. It is also better to fill out the form using the FireFox browser http://www.mozilla-europe.org/ru/firefox/ As practice has shown, this browser is the best assistant for filling out the form in terms of stable performance)) The application requires a 5x5 photo in electronic format and a printed copy. Do not forget to print the application itself and take it to the interview – so you don't forget any data, as questions will be asked based on your application. You also need two copies of the confirmation of completion, one for yourself for the interview, and the other for the International Exchange Center. That's it, we are waiting for the interview date. Found out))) we rejoice. Collecting documents: 1. Russian passport 2. International passport (you give it to the International Exchange Center when submitting documents to the embassy) 3. Record book (extended session, stamp and all teacher signatures, no debts) 4. Student ID 5. Job offer (if you have one, but it's better if you do) 6. Certificate from the dean's office (issued in the same month as the interview) 7. Printout of the application 8. Printout of the application confirmation 9. Printout of our rights in the USA In Russian: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AUj6kbqpIAA7ZGM1YzkzbnNfMjEyOHBibXBmZw&hl=en In English: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AUj6kbqpIAA7ZGM1YzkzbnNfMjBmY2tyeGpmZA&hl=en 10. If you are a final-year student, don't forget that you need to prepare a motivation letter for your visa documents, in which you will tell the consul about the expediency of your participation in the program after graduating from the university, and also describe in detail your plans upon returning. A letter from an employer in Russia where you will work upon your return or a certificate from the university where you will continue your studies in graduate school are also mandatory. 11. Other certificates that you think will be useful to you at the embassy Well, that's it, now that our interview date is known, we can relax, because everything is in order with us) only a small thing remains! Let's go))
