Work is not a wolf, it won't run into the forest.

Most Cape Townians are very kind and good people, but only until they get behind the wheel. I would say keep your eyes peeled, because they are more likely to run you over than let you pass. And yes, pedestrians don't wait for the green light; waiting for that gift of fate is almost impossible. Then came the question of finding a job, of which there is plenty in Cape Town. Within the first hour of searching (we just printed a bunch of our CVs at the SASTS office and handed them out to all the bars and restaurants we liked in all the tourist spots of Cape Town), we had already received two offers each, and the next day I started training at one of the places, and a few days later at another. Then a couple of other places called, and after doing a small survey of the population ;D, I settled on two bars, and now I work two jobs: as a waitress at the lounge and bar "Neighbourhood" and as a barmaid at the Italian cocktail bar "Big Route". The shifts here are reasonable; officially, shifts are no more than 8 hours (otherwise, demand extra pay!), and sometimes even less. And the teams are just incredibly cool! I'm just enjoying working here; everyone is simple and so willing to help, explain, and encourage.

Uncle Sam's trail

Memories have a tendency to get tangled, to lose their distinct scents and tastes. They must be written down as they come, otherwise they become bland. They consist of thoughts, feelings, and fleeting sensations. When you speak memories aloud, thoughts are chased by hundreds of other tiny details that are sometimes so hard to catch. It is even harder to piece it all together. In childhood, many of us had a box for our best toys or found treasures. Collecting memories is very much like putting your treasures into a large jewelry box. At first, there are few memories, they barely cover the bottom of the box, but eventually, it fills to the brim, and you take a new one. I have a new box for this summer. And I am letting you take a peek inside. I think the memories of the restaurant and its owners will remain at the very top. The restaurant is called Cuban Revolution Restaurant & Bar. I wouldn't call it cozy. It's an old red-brick tobacco factory; there are thick iron pipes on the ceiling, and pop art featuring retro stars like Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Che Guevara, and John Kennedy hangs on the brick walls. Brick walls hold the least appeal for me, but it was explained to us that this is trendy among Americans; they pay huge money to have a brick wall in their home instead of regular walls. Like in a drug den, honestly. Modest wooden tables and chairs leave no doubt that this is a bar, not an elegant restaurant where waiters in white tailcoats serve fragrant food on round crystal trays. There is no room for elegance here; the waiters are dressed in strictly black. They dash through the kitchen and the restaurant like comets, dripping sauces and cream on themselves, spilling water and cocktails. White, unlike black, is quite demanding. the overall color scheme is black and red, but it is quite restrained, not flashy. At night, candles are lit on the tables. Cooks and waiters dance salsa in the kitchen to music, throw food, and splash sauce. There are almost no native Americans from the northern states here, mostly loud and temperamental residents of Spain or South America. I think they like us. They are surprised that we are from Russia and ask us to teach them Russian words. The cook and the bartender treat us to sandwiches; a guy named Luis keeps asking if we want to drink and pours us soda or water. Almost all Americans drink with ice or soda with various flavors. Also, residents of North Carolina prefer VERY sweet iced tea. You surely remember the disgusting school swill in the cafeteria that bore the proud name of "sweet tea." The water tastes like scale, and the sugar rises to half the glass. There are more people on Thursdays. A special salsa instructor offers to level up your dance skills. Many dance quite well; apparently, they come here every Thursday. The tables are pushed together to create a kind of enclosure, where a girl sits at the entrance and issues tickets for an extra fee. It is normal if you walk into a store and manage to get to know the cashier in two minutes, learning that his uncle won't come to his fortieth birthday celebration because a dog named Fluffy died of old age. I don't even know what is more human: the genuinely indifferent faces of Russians or the feigned friendly smiles of Americans that they give you without thinking. Try talking to a cashier at a newsstand or a vegetable kiosk in Russia; most likely, an indignant look will follow you to the door, and at home, you will brew a potion against the evil eye more than once. It was our first time doing an internship. I was assigned as an assistant to a guy named Kruz. He has a dark face, mongoloid features, and slanted eyes; he looks like a Tatar. He has an earring in each ear that looks like a large diamond. A pen is always sticking out from behind his ear. He writes everything down on colored sticky notes. He handles this pile of colorful papers quite skillfully, remembering which of the six visitors at the table ordered a Red Stripe beer and

07/09/13. Tuesday. Cape May.

We went to that very Harbor View Restaurant & Bar. Sonya was advised to look for a second job there for the evening. After all, her soap bubbles business is not profitable at all. This restaurant is located on the way to Cape May, between two cities. The road is along Ocean Drive. We checked the map and saw that we needed to cross three bridges and then turn left immediately. As soon as we left the WW city limits, we felt like we were on vacation! It's so cool, as if we are already traveling! It's great to discover new places! True, the road is not adapted for cyclists; we rode carefully along the narrow shoulder. The bridges turned out to be just veeeery narrow. Exactly one lane for a car, no room to the left or right. We let several drivers pass and took the risk. The cars behind us were crawling like turtles behind us. It was worse on the second bridge, it is (as I later found out) a drawbridge. That is, a big hill. It's hard to climb it, we dragged our bikes ourselves))) slowly, and accordingly held up all traffic. So we didn't manage to enjoy the beautiful view enough. This bridge is toll for cars. It was cool to fly down from it without pedaling! In fact, WW and CM are surrounded by lakes where there is no ocean. Therefore, there are really many bridges. All these lakes are marinas for a huge number of yachts. You can ride, rent them! The restaurant is located right on the shore. It's a kind of pier. It seems that visitors can arrive on their yacht, park it and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner! We immediately spotted a help wanted sign, which made us very happy. The hostess called the manager Irene. The first question was whether we have an SSN, without it she doesn't hire anyone. Well, strict, but it's safer for us too. Irene hired Sonya for the position of Line Cook in the morning! 6 days a week, with a strict schedule! Very, very good! True, Sonya will have to quit the hotel. But it's definitely worth it! We finished at 4 o'clock. Why don't we dash to Cape May? It seems like we've wanted to for a long time, but there was never an opportunity. The fact that I start working at the very end of WW at 6 only spurred me on. We drove for about 20 minutes. Another big bridge, and we are almost at our destination. In some places we had to use traffic rules, changing lanes at turns to the row we needed. Actually, we only saw one part of the city. But it amazed us! So clean, beautiful, quiet. The most amazing thing is the trees! There are so many of them here! Here I am sitting on my avenue now, writing a blog, looked around - not a single tree! In CM, there are so many of them! And there are almost no cars. We rode boldly in the middle of the roadway, turned wherever and however we wanted! Everywhere there are very beautiful, well-kept houses, lawns - a real American province! It feels like our WW is stuck in a space-time gap. On Ocean Ave there are cool modern hotels, but all other buildings in the hinterland are old, without repairs. Who needs it, you can't live in them in winter, and there is no one to live in them. And in summer, students and illegal immigrants are happy with cheap apartments! I immediately wanted to live in this cozy town, my soul just rejoices! After Ocean Drive, we only turned left so as not to get lost and quickly drive around the coastal part. Actually, when it was time to return, we realized how far we had gone! I would even say we got lost! We didn't make a circle, but a huge loop! We only got onto Ocean Drive at 5:10. My poor bike, I was squeezing the impossible out of it! And if you take into account the heat, then out of myself too!!! The road was very difficult, I pedaled without stopping, and on those two high bridges I thought I would roll down! But at 5:35 I was already home. My legs wouldn't move!!! And I still have to fly to work! I don't know how I did it! In general, at the end of the summer I will either hate the bike or I won't be able to live without it! As a result, to CM, through it a

August 20th After getting home, I had an idea to go to a club) After all, I don't go to Washington every day) But the only club nearby was a gay bar) They would have let me in, of course, but I'd have to pay!) And my budget is veeery strictly accounted for) But I wanted to go so baaad))))))) Not this time, maybe next time!) Plus, James suggested going to Georgetown) For those who have never been to Washington, and for those who have, let me remind you that Georgetown is not a city, as one might think from the name, but a neighborhood in Washington)))))) So, we took a taxi to Georgetown (oh right, it turns out I also got to ride in a taxi!)))))), and went to the waterfront!) That's where I was surprised—no, not just surprised, I was amazed to the depths of my soul!) A gorgeous fountain, bars, everyone looking so beautiful, guys dressed neatly in shirts, stylish, fit girls in heels)))))) Sigh))) And you could hear conversations and laughter everywhere))) And on the waterfront, there were yachts, parties on yachts))) A view of the Lincoln Memorial, and planes flying by too))) We decided to go into a bar; it didn't matter to me whether I drank or not, I just wanted to sit somewhere))) Then James drops this: "Okay, Tanya, you're my stepsister from Russia, you don't speak English very well, and I just decided to show you the city")))))))))) I almost fell over laughing))) What kind of stepsister))))))))))))) I only managed to say "...huh?...", to which James said admiringly, "There, perfect)))) Just like you don't understand well")))) So we went into that bar, found a cool spot with a view of the waterfront, and sat there talking)) I laughed so much that evening that my cheeks were hurting by the end))) Later, while passing by a yacht with the iconic name Dr.J, Washington, DC, I met the owner, who didn't want to let us go at all))) "Girls, we have the whole night ahead of us! Relax on my yacht, everything in the bar is yours") But we quietly slipped away without drawing any attention))))) And when I got home, I fell into such a deep sleep that when I woke up the next morning, I didn't immediately realize where I was!) No wonder)))))))
