About the place

Galician immigrants funded the grand structure on Paseo del Prado to establish a cultural and social headquarters in the city.

Belgian architect Paul Belau designed the complex on the footprint of the old Teatro Tacón, bounded by Calle San Rafael and Calle Consulado. Engineers from Purdy and Henderson executed the construction, incorporating allegorical stone figures by Giuseppe Moretti that represent benevolence, education, music, and theatre.
