Federation Island was conceived as an artificial offshore archipelago off the Sochi coastline.
Erick van Egeraat designed the archipelago project as an artificial landmass in the Black Sea off the coast of Sochi. The master plan outlined an island group shaped like the Russian Federation, intended to hold residential quarters, leisure spaces, hotels, and cultural venues. Dutch engineering firms Witteveen & Bos and Van Oord joined M-Industries of St. Petersburg to prepare the maritime construction.
