À propos du lieu

Federation Island was conceived as an artificial offshore archipelago off the Sochi coastline.

Erick van Egeraat designed the archipelago project as an artificial landmass in the Black Sea off the coast of Sochi. The master plan outlined an island group shaped like the Russian Federation, intended to hold residential quarters, leisure spaces, hotels, and cultural venues. Dutch engineering firms Witteveen & Bos and Van Oord joined M-Industries of St. Petersburg to prepare the maritime construction.

State authorities approved the offshore development following its presentation at an international investment forum, but work on the marine site halted before physical reclamation began. Settlers and long-term workers arriving in Sochi encounter the location only as a maritime development concept. Daily life, housing arrangements, and municipal services remain anchored on the mainland coast rather than artificial offshore ground.
