About the place

Neoclassical pediment sculptures front an institution founded by intellectuals to safeguard Ukrainian art across shifting political regimes.

Ukrainian intellectuals established the institution to provide the public with accessible national art collections. Architect Petro Boitsov designed the neoclassical structure, while Władysław Horodecki revised the project and supervised construction. Sculptor Elio Salia completed the decorative stone carvings along the frontispiece. The galleries debuted with an archaeological conference before formal dedication.
