The primary skyscraper of the Yekaterinburg-City commercial district defines the skyline of the regional capital.

The skyscraper stands in the Yekaterinburg-City business district as the tallest building in the city. It held the title of the tallest building in Russia outside Moscow until the construction of the Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg. The tower became the tallest overall structure locally following the demolition of the unfinished television tower nearby ahead of the world football tournament.

German architect Werner Sobek designed the tower after winning an international design competition against the French architecture firm Valode & Pistre Architectes. Industrial group UGMK Holdings managed the development of the skyscraper. Long-term occupants rely on self-contained services within the commercial district, which insulates daily professional life from the severe regional winter conditions outside.
