About the place

Central Market Project redevelops the historic trading core into a dense urban hub housing skyscrapers, retail malls, and hospitality spaces.

Central Market Project stands in Abu Dhabi as the development branded as World Trade Center. The complex integrates high-rise towers with shopping malls and a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Contractors faced major delays when a global financial crisis disrupted progress, ultimately abandoning a planned hotel tower and finishing the site with residential and commercial skyscrapers.

Read on

Long-term occupants encounter a development structured around shopping malls and the Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Retail concourses and hotel amenities form the base of the skyscrapers, concentrating commercial activity on site. Because the planned hotel tower was cancelled during construction, the built footprint prioritizes the remaining skyscraper facilities and retail space over the expanded lodging capacity originally envisioned.
