Bangla Road forms the primary straight entertainment thoroughfare, packed with music venues, discotheques, and go-go bars. Nearby Paradise Complex gathers the central gay nightlife scene along similar rows of late-night clubs. Prostitution is illegal under Thai law yet remains openly tolerated across these entertainment quarters. Commercial storefronts also sell cannabis freely along the retail streets fronting the beach strip.

The shoreline suffered catastrophic destruction when an Indian Ocean earthquake triggered a massive tsunami along the coast. Seawater devastated the beachfront buildings and flooded inland streets. Reconstruction has since restored the waterfront into an active commercial resort.
