Getting started

Now for a very educational part of my blog :) Listen up, especially if you are planning to work as housekeepers. The training lasted 4 days, and everything was going quite well until we encountered HELL. Rusty plumbing. The thing is, in Denali, everything operates from May to September; for the rest of the year, all establishments are locked up, and naturally, the pipes rust. For the first few days, the water is oversaturated with iron, which leaves bright orange stains on the plumbing, on the porcelain, streaks on the metal, and on everything you wash. The orange showers had to be scrubbed, and a miracle came to our rescue - SOFT SCRUB. By some unspoken division of labor, I cleaned the bathrooms, Veronika did the beds, and Megan and Zarko (the other two housekeepers) did everything else, i.e., vacuuming, steam cleaning carpets, laundry, and so on. I still think the bathrooms were the hardest in the first few days; the thin gloves barely helped, and the harsh chlorine burned my skin. After two days, I was sporting a wild crust of damaged skin on my knuckles and the first phalanges of my fingers; it was painful to clench and unclench my fists. I went to show this mess to our general manager, and he immediately cut me off: don't scrub the bathrooms so aggressively! Your health is more important to me. He said they would order us thicker gloves, and then we'd see, but for now - wash, but don't scrub so hard if your hands hurt. With our combined efforts, we scrubbed all the bathrooms, which I am still a little proud of :D I want to warn you - working as a housekeeper is hard at first. You don't yet know what to do and how to do it to make everything fast and easy, but the further you go, the easier it gets. For example, I always followed the same routine in every room - enter - collect dirty linen and towels, leave them in the corner - clean the bathroom and sink in the room - collect trash around the room - take the trash bag and dirty linen - carry them to the laundry - return with clean ones - make the bed - hang up clean towels - vacuum. It was exactly this way that everything worked out easier and faster for me. Teamwork also helps a lot. Never underestimate the help of others. SOME TIPS! Don't be afraid to report problems and inconveniences to your managers; it is in their interest for you to be comfortable and well. A happy employee is a good employee. Look up useful words for your job; for example, a couple of times I didn't know at all what a certain item was called in English. For instance, I had a wild panic when a toilet clogged in one of the rooms, water was pouring over the edge, and I simply didn't know how to say "plunger" in English. Although in such stressful situations, words are learned very quickly :) Or, for example, when a guest asks you for something, and you don't know the word and try to guess what it is almost by their eyes. At the same time, it's not that my English is bad, just a lack of vocabulary on the topic. Therefore, I advise you to prepare :) Safety above all - when working with chemicals (and housekeepers have many of them - bleach, iron neutralizer, air freshener, glass cleaner, tile cleaner, surface cleaner, carpet shampoo...) protect yourself thoroughly - if the gloves are thin, wear two on each hand; when working with bleach, protect your respiratory tract, make yourself some kind of mask, for example. Do not spray chemicals above eye level, as getting anything in your eyes is generally unpleasant. Work is work, but health is more important.

Words of encouragement for those heading off to conquer America for the first time!

Go for it! Don't be afraid of difficulties and challenges, because they are exactly what make life more interesting and strengthen our character. The main thing is to believe in yourself and your abilities. Even if your English level isn't that great, don't sweat it! I've seen many students with, to put it mildly, poor English improve day by day. Start practicing at least 3-4 months before flying to America, watch movies in English, and start thinking and speaking in English. Basically, you need to know a certain set of words, and grammar knowledge won't be that useful, since even Americans themselves don't often speak grammatically correctly (those of you who are good at grammar, get ready to spoil it a little). By the way, here is a link to a decent site - http://www.moeleto.com/vocabulary.html (Vocabulary for Work and Travel participants. There you will find the most necessary set of words that you will definitely need in America). In general, don't be afraid that something won't work out! My friend and I went into total uncertainty and didn't even imagine where we would live and work! And we managed just fine! You can do it too! You need to take action! It might happen that you will never again have such a unique opportunity to see America with your own eyes, to feel those unreal, breathtaking emotions when you find yourself in an unfamiliar country, on a completely different continent, so far from home! After all, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away... The main thing is to be confident in yourself, smile, be friendly to everyone, and everything will work out for you! P/S Good luck to everyone! Thanks for opening my blog... and I hope you liked it!) We must do everything we must, and everything we want, before that time, knowing that we will never return to this in our lives again. (c) C. Castaneda "The Eagle's Gift"

Why I decided to participate in the program.

Hello, my name is Lina. Im 19 years old. I want to tell you why I decided participate in this program. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of going to America, walking on the waterfront by the ocean, having fun with different people, learning more about their culture and mentality. The thought that I could visit America really fascinated me and the desire grew more and more. Getting acquainted with the art of cinema in the original recording, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the exciting atmosphere of America, feel incredible emotions and imagine an unforgettable time spent there, which I can really translate into reality. Listening to their music encouraged me to study the language better and better in order to understand the meaning that the author put into his song. So, having learned about this program, which provides an opportunity to visit America, and also with benefit, I happily decided to use it. It is this program that provides an opportunity to meet people from your country with common goals and interests and to make friends. These people give each other support and advice, which is really important when taking such an important step in your life. In addition, the employees of the center of the international center provide quality advice and become assistants throughout the process of this program, therefore, thanks to this, you can feel much more relaxed and confident in your actions. Preparing for a trip is also a special process that contains excitement, anticipation, and experiences, but in the course of solving various issues it becomes easier and more interesting, you immerse yourself in the process and start to enjoy it. The emotions that I will get from the trip of this program prompted me to choose it and make an important decision for myself. During this trip, you can get new vivid sensations that add color to life. Such a trip provides many opportunities, one of which is meeting new and interesting people. Since America is considered a country of immigrants, here you will be able to get to know representatives of different nationalities, their culture and mentality. Dating data involves the exchange of life experiences, stories, advice and much more. Having talked with quite different people, you can learn a lot of new things, consider new views on the lives of other people of various cultures. By communicating with a large number of people, you will be able to learn a lot of new and interesting information that may be of some benefit in the future. Sharing life experiences helps people discover new aspects of life. Communicating with different personalities that you will meet, you will hear a large number of thoughts and views, so your horizons will expand significantly and your thinking will reach a new level. An important element of this program is also that you can improve your spoken English and its understanding. No matter how much we are taught English in educational institutions, it is much better to learn the language in practice. Usually in life the language can be a little different from what we were taught, as we are taught more formally. In fact, in life, English contains many abbreviations and jargons that are used in everyday life and without which it is difficult to imagine life for a real American. A great way to learn another language is to be around people who speak the language you want to learn. Communicating with native speakers is a valuable experience that helps improve your skills. Thus, the more you practice a language, the better you become at communicating with it. It is real spoken English that I would like to learn on this trip, improve my sentence making skills and increase my vocabulary. Experience is what you primarily get from this program. Everything you do has a certain significance in your life, and the more a person goes through different situations, the more experienced and wise he becomes. Everything you do, from completing your paperwork to arriving in y
