Sobre o local

Hilltop pine groves shade the former royal retreat above Karte Parwan.

Emir Abdur Rahman Khan commissioned the palace as a summer residence and later passed away inside the compound. The property served as a royal castle under Emir Habibullah Khan, shifted to a guesthouse, and briefly sheltered the National Museum of Afghanistan. King Ghazi Amanullah Khan converted the rooms for military housing before complete abandonment. King Zahir Shah subsequently revived the site as a restaurant.

The structure survived wartime fighting across the capital and underwent major conservation to restore its early interior design. No official state bureau occupies the building today. The surrounding grounds operate as an expansive municipal park filled with pine groves and a broad swimming pool. Historians Nancy Dupree and Louis Dupree celebrated their marriage here, and urban walkers now use the ridgeline for open air.
