O miejscu

A Gothic brick nave stands beside the historic port docks, anchored by medieval foundations.

The sanctuary stands on an island along the medieval boundary of the urban center, directly facing the historic maritime docks. Established as the traditional parish of seamen, the site ranks among the principal Lutheran churches of the municipality. The lower tower masonry survives as one of the oldest municipal structures after the Neuwerk lighthouse. A North German Brick Gothic hall church with triple naves defines the interior.

A Baroque rooftop was added to the Gothic tower before industrial warehouse growth transformed the neighborhood. Clearing land for the adjacent Speicherstadt district displaced the parish community. Wartime air raids later reduced the nave to bare perimeter walls and tower foundations. Postwar reconstruction campaigns restored the church, preserving a pastoral legacy shaped by Joachim Westphal and Philipp Nicolai.
