Work, jet lag, and the first culture shock!

The city where I lived is called New London in the state of Connecticut. It is a small, cozy port town. I worked as a housekeeper at the largest hotel. The work turned out to be physically demanding only at the beginning, and for the first four days, the supervisor checked every room I cleaned. After a week, I got used to both the work and the city. I had a long period of acclimatization. I would wake up at night and want to sleep during the day, but it only lasted for a week and a half. I lived in a neighboring hotel across the street from work. There were four girls in the room: me and my friend from Kazakhstan, a girl from Belarus, and a girl from Mongolia. The girl from Mongolia didn't speak Russian, and that was extra language practice. Because you either speak English, or you aren't understood. Work life hacks: Arrive 5-7 minutes early — this time is also counted. Over five working days, you accumulate an extra half hour, which is also paid. Always be polite and smile. It is very simple and improves how you are treated by both the team and the employer. Always agree to overtime and come in on your day off if asked. This way, you will establish yourself as a good worker and can receive bonuses (food, money, invitations to parties, etc.). As soon as I arrived, I immediately noticed the difference in the mentality of people in Kazakhstan and America. All my neighbors greeted me and asked how I was doing — there was constant small talk. It seems like a small thing, but it's nice! Food portions are just huge! I love eating delicious food, and for me, this was true happiness. Everyone smiles at each other! It absolutely doesn't matter if you know them or not. If you make eye contact with someone, they will always smile at you. People don't care what you look like! I would go out on the street with a towel on my head, in pajamas, and sometimes just in a blanket, and nobody cared at all.

Gotta love this American ride

Besides those cities, I also visited Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Baltimore, and Denver. I will go through them quickly and share the most important things. If you are traveling to the West, do not buy a tour. If you go on your own: - you save money - you manage your own time; in my case, it was extremely limited. I had to spend less than a day in each city, which is very little for a big city - you don't have to adapt to anyone else and can create your own travel plan. If I were to go again, I would organize everything myself. It is better to spend your nerves now and then travel and enjoy yourself in peace. Los Angeles was one of the big cities. We didn't even cover 1/4 of it. The road takes up most of the time, so set aside as many hours as possible and have a blast. I am more than sure that there is plenty to see in Los Angeles. Las Vegas didn't capture my heart at all. For me, one day is more than enough for it. The main street, the "Strip," is the only thing worth looking at. Besides hotels and casinos, you won't see anything else. If you are a gambler, it will suit you because there are casinos at every step. And the main factor that pushed me away was the climate. In summer, it is sweltering heat, with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. The only time you can walk around is at night. It seemed soulless to me; there is debauchery everywhere, and there are plenty of drunk men trying to find their prey. If you like that kind of atmosphere, then run to Las Vegas. There is one more place I haven't mentioned before. A place where you can experience an adrenaline rush: "Six Flags." Since I adore roller coasters and entertainment of that kind, I couldn't help but go there, otherwise, I would never have forgiven myself. Six Flags is a paradise for both adults and children. This amusement park is in many states of America. I went to the one closest to me. Believe me, you won't experience so many emotions at once anywhere else, so I highly recommend going and seeing it with your own eyes.

DAY 4 - TRAVELING AROUND THE USA

We spent most of the day on the road, but we did stop at an incredibly beautiful place (not counting food stops). We were driving from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Even though it looks quite close on the map, the drive ended up taking us about 8 hours. Contrary to my expectations, the climates of these two cities are very different. The temperature dropped from 32 to 21 degrees. Instead of a blue sky, endless clouds were drifting by, and we thought we wouldn't see clear weather at all. On the way, we passed a wildly picturesque spot – 17-mile Drive. It is famous for being a scenic coastal road that runs along the Pacific Ocean, passing by famous golf courses and expensive houses in the towns of Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, California. It is the first private (!) road in California. the main scenic attraction of the road is the Lone Cypress, a salt-battered tree that is the official symbol of Pebble Beach and a frequent screensaver for TV broadcasts from this area. Unfortunately, by that point, Matvey and I had already played games on our phone and drained the battery, so you'll have to take my word for it))

MIAMI, FLORIDA

MIAMI We saved Miami for the end of our program. While we visited New York and Boston in the middle of summer, we kept Miami for “dessert.” Miami means beaches, white sand, a tropical climate, a warm ocean, carefree relaxation, a “hot” Spanish mentality, and an atmosphere of a constant party. *TIP FOR TRAVELERS TO MIAMI: Just fly there and ENJOY!!;)))

America: UNTIL - one week left)))

1.The string of exams, pass/fail tests, term papers is almost behind. A plane taking off that makes your heart freeze, an immense metropolis with heavy air, huge waiting halls, terminals, a language barrier, a different time zone and climate zone, and so on and so forth - imagining all this, somehow there isn't much room left in my head for the basics of labor and environmental law, for which there's still an exam left to take..hah) 2.I, a person who has never flown on a plane, never gone higher than the 15th floor, a person who will fly over half of Russia, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the USA, half of the Pacific Ocean. Oh, three days in the sky) hahaha))) 3.My destination is Honolulu, the capital of the state of Hawaii. What comes to mind for you?)) mmm...Aloha, the Hilo dance, the seismic belt, volcanoes, flower garlands, surfing, the beach, Lilo and Stitch)aahhahaha) - that's how it is for me) 4.The big American dream - that's what I call my dream that's about to come true. I honestly never would have thought that it would just go ahead and come true like that. I always thought about it, but I never, desired it until one incident. When one winter evening, "strolling around the local airport", we happened to notice , that the big electronic clock showed "23:23" and decided to make a wish on that number. A year and then some passed...and...wishes come true!)) I really like making wishes on matching numbers, and, apparently, if you really want it, they will come true. )

America: T-minus one week)))

1. The series of exams, tests, and term papers is almost behind me. A taking-off plane that makes your heart stop, a vast metropolis with heavy air, huge waiting halls, terminals, a language barrier, a different time zone and climate, and so on and so forth - imagining all this, there's not much room left in my head for the basics of labor and environmental law, for which I still have an exam to take... hah) 2. I am a person who has never flown on a plane, never been higher than the 15th floor, a person who will fly across half of Russia, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the USA, and half of the Pacific Ocean. Oh, three days in the sky) hahaha))) 3. My destination is Honolulu, the capital of the state of Hawaii. What associations did you have?)) mmm... Aloha, hula dance, seismic belt, volcanoes, flower garlands, surfing, beach, Lilo & Stitch) ahahaha) - that's how it is for me personally) 4. The big American dream - that's what I call my dream, which is about to come true. Honestly, I never thought it would just come true like that. I always thought about it, but I never really wished for it until one incident. When one winter evening, while "strolling through the local airport," we accidentally noticed that the large electronic clock showed the time "23:23" and decided to make a wish on that number. More than a year has passed... and... wishes do come true!)) I really like making wishes on identical numbers, and, apparently, if you want it badly enough, they will come true. )
