A supertall glass landmark reshaping the skyline of Lakeshore East.

The St. Regis Chicago stands in the Lakeshore East district as a supertall multi-use skyscraper designed by Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang Architects. The tower ranks behind Willis Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, making it the tallest building planned by a woman. High lakefront winds required structural revisions during construction, forcing engineers to turn a full residential floor into an open mechanical gap.

Magellan Development Group partnered with Wanda Group to finance the project before foreign capital rules caused Wanda to exit the venture. Magellan purchased the remaining interest during a period of slowed sales, while condominium buyers filed lawsuits over ownership changes and contract surcharges.
