Residents in Sendagaya base their training routines around Olympic-grade arena grounds before commuting toward central Shibuya.
Constructed originally for the World Wrestling Championship, the sporting complex stands in the Sendagaya district of Shibuya. The arena subsequently staged Olympic gymnastics competitions and later returned to the Olympic roster to host international table tennis tournaments. The grounds function as an active municipal competition centre rather than a dormant monument, drawing amateur athletes and regional leagues.
Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki redesigned the complex with a futuristic roof profile that defines the surrounding neighbourhood skyline. The modernist metallic structures house expansive indoor arenas alongside community training halls. Residents moving into the surrounding blocks encounter periodic event crowds and tournament security closures, balancing elite spectator sports with everyday municipal track access.
