Pirmā iepazīšanās ar pilsētu

Jūs esat ieradušies galamērķī. Mēs izkāpām Florence pieturā, kur mūs vajadzēja sagaidīt tā sauktajam transferam, kuru es pasūtīju vēl Minskā. Mēs izkāpām, par aukstumu vairs nebija ne runas, bija nepanesami karsts. Iekāpt mašīnā ar kondicionieri un iedzert ūdeni bija visideālākā lieta pasaulē. Mūs atveda uz studentu centru, tur mēs nopirkām SIM kartes, uzzinājām daudz informācijas, atstājām čemodānus un devāmies uz blakus esošo kafejnīcu brokastīs. Tur bija tās pašas tradicionālās kino amerikāņu brokastis. Un, iespējams, tas bija visamerikāniskākais ēdiens, ko es ēdu visā laikā, ko pavadīju ASV. Tur mēs iepazināmies ar ukraiņu pāri un pirmo reizi saskārāmies ar nodokļiem, kuru dēļ viesmīle skrēja mums pakaļ uz ielas. Tālāk sākās pats interesantākais un svarīgākais: mājokļa meklēšana. Mēs bijām trijatā, bet mums nebija variantu, un mēs nolēmām iet kājām uz šo adresi un galējā gadījumā vismaz uz nakti palikt tur. Mēs vienkārši gājām pēc navigatora, apskatījām visu apkārt un zvanījām uz mājām pa WhatsApp. Tieši šajā ceļā mēs uzzinājām, ka tur gandrīz nav ietvju un gājēju pāreju. Mēs apmaldījāmies, gājām apkārtceļiem un jau bijām spēku izsīkumā no karstuma. Kad mēs gandrīz sasniedzām galamērķi, ūdens beidzās, saule cepināja kā ekvatorā, atceros, es izņēmu no mugursomas jaciņu un aptinu ap galvu. Kājas jau knapi vilkās, un tas viss atgādināja šovu “Survivor”. Bet izrādījās, ka šajā adresē neviens pat nedomāja izīrēt mājokli. Atpakaļ mums nācās braukt ar Uber. Atgriezušies studentu centrā, mēs sākām zvanīt uz visiem sludinājumiem, un viss nesekmīgi. Mums piezvanīja tas ukraiņu pāris no kafejnīcas, un mēs devāmies pie viņiem uz piestātni. Tas, iespējams, bija pats labākais manas dzīves garākajā dienā. Mums nav mājokļa, ieeja uz piestātni maksā 1$, bet pudele auksta ūdens ap 3$. Tuvojās vakars, studentu centrs slēdzās, bet mēs stāvējām uz piestātnes un skatījāmies okeānā. Tu stāvi, vējš pūš, sāļais gaiss apņem un saule apskauj. Tu beidzot apzinies, ka esi ticis, un dvēselē ir tik mierīgi, ka esi gatavs nakšņot tepat. Rezultātā mēs atradām naktsmājas uzbeku ģimenē. Ierodoties uz vietas, mums kļuva slikti no istabas 2. stāvā bez logiem, kur uz grīdas gulēja matrači un jau dzīvoja 3 meitenes. Un tieši tajā dienā mēs naktī bijām Walmart un saskārāmies ar amerikāņu veikalu un produktu burvību. Mēs nakšņojām kā viesstrādnieki, uz grīdas, seši vienā mazā istabā, bet tā bija īpaša nakts, pirmā nakts okeāna otrā pusē. Tālāk bija pirmā rīta gaisma citā dzīvē, citā klimatā, citā laikā, citā valodā. Mēs devāmies pastaigāties un iepazīties ar darbu. Saule, ļoti daudz cilvēku, mēs atradām galveno veikalu un uzzinājām, kurš no mums kur strādās. Atceros, es eju iekšā savā veikalā, tik laimīga, cerību pilna un gatava darbam. Uz sliekšņa mani jau ar skatienu mērīja zems, plikpaurains vīrietis. Es piegāju pie viņa, pateicu, ka esmu ar offer un esmu šeit, urrā! Priecāsimies! Bet tad es sapratu, tas nav joks, nevis vasaras darba pieredze, nevis jautrs veikaliņš sērfošanai ar dēļiem. Tas ir bizness, kas netaisās taisīt atlaides un atvieglojumus, gatavojies strādāt! Šo saukli es izjutu uz savas ādas nākamajā dienā, kad atnācu pie veikala durvīm 10:30. Sieviete vārdā Kima, ar melnu lakatu galvā, bargi paskatījās uz manu smaidīgo seju un teica: “Es tev teicu atnākt uz 11, bet tagad cik ir?” Es nolēmu, lai izvairītos no nepatikšanām, uz laiku pazust un aizgāju pastaigāties uz tām 30 minūtēm.
