Punta della Dogana anchors the triangular junction of the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal in the Dorsoduro district.

The site occupies the triangular tip of Dorsoduro where major maritime channels meet directly across the water from Piazza San Marco. Originally serving as the maritime customs checkpoint for cargo vessels, the historic structure now operates as an exhibition venue for contemporary art. The surrounding complex combines the historic customs house with the Patriarchal Seminary and the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.
