Anyone working at Baroda House must navigate active railway administration inside a royal palace, trading standard corporate convenience for historic corridors next to Faridkot House.
The complex originated as the Delhi residence of the Maharaja of Baroda. Sir Edwin Lutyens conceived the building plans while travelling by train, applying imperial design principles to a royal townhouse. The building contractor Sir Sobha Singh oversaw physical construction on the plot directly adjoining Faridkot House. Today the structure retains its stately exterior despite extensive conversions for civil servants.
Northern Railways uses the entire estate as its zonal headquarters. Government personnel occupy the suites where princely households once stayed, directing regional rail operations from administrative desks. Long-term visitors cannot treat the site as a leisure destination, because security guards at the perimeter restrict access to railway personnel.
