À propos du lieu

Lifelike wax figures define the exhibition, preserving historical likenesses and contemporary celebrities across thematic galleries.

The collection began as a travelling exhibition of anatomical studies and political portraiture before establishing a permanent gallery in London. Early displays gained public attention through dramatic presentations of historical figures and notable convicts in dedicated chambers. The founder learned the craft of modelling in wax during youth and later cast likenesses of prominent casualties during the French Revolution.

Public recognition at the gallery quickly turned into a benchmark for celebrity status in Victorian society. Writers and monarchs received portrait figures alongside contemporary public figures, prompting commentary from prominent authors who viewed the venue as an established civic institution. Several original portrait sculptures produced by the founder remain preserved and displayed within the broader international collection.

Modern culture continues to incorporate the exhibition into media productions, television broadcasts, and musical artwork. Prominent personalities occasionally stand in place of their sculpted likenesses to surprise visitors during filming sessions. Sculptures from the museum have also appeared on record covers and in music videos, demonstrating the enduring connection between physical portraiture and commercial entertainment.

To help the pioneers)

I decided it would be useful to write down the addresses of some good shops and beautiful places in New York... And here they are: MegaStore J&R (a huge shopping center where you can find any tech you need). It is located in Lower Manhattan near the Brooklyn Bridge, 23 Park Row (you need to walk through City Hall Park). By the way, they are open from 10 AM to 7 PM. You can get there by subway: 4, 5, 6 to Brooklyn Bridge (you'll see the Brooklyn Bridge there too). Manhattan Mall (just a really cool shopping center) - 100 W. 33rd Street, Broadway @ 33rd Street. Strawberry (you can find a branch of this store in Manhattan Mall, but there are many others around the city) - 129 E 42nd St (between De Pew Pl & Lexington Ave). Macy’s (I think this is the biggest and most famous store for fashion and branded clothing in New York) – 151 W. 34th St (on the corner of 34th Street and Broadway). Subway: 1, 2, 3, 9 to Penn Station. Daffy’s – located right next to Macy’s (lots of good and inexpensive clothing). Necessary clothing – there are several of these stores around the city: 1) 442 Broadway (Soho area) 2) 676 Broadway (Noho area) 3) 404 Broadway (Tribeca area) 4) 443 Broadway (Soho area) Century XXI – 22 Cortland Street (between Church and Broadway). It is located in Lower Manhattan. TJ Maxx – 620 Ave of Americas. Sephora – on Times Square 34th St, 5th Ave (a gorgeous cosmetics store! By the way, you can even get your makeup done there for free). Look for discounts where you see signs like: clearance, closeout, out of business sale. Also, if you manage to, you can catch a massive clothing sale at Housing Works stores. Basically, at the end of the season, stores get rid of clothes that weren't sold in time because they need to bring in new collections. That's why they hold these sales almost every Saturday starting in September: you buy a bag from them for $25 and stuff everything you can fit into it. We didn't make it to such a sale ourselves since we were in New York at the beginning of the week, but I read that it's total chaos and a madhouse))) Just type "New York, Housing Works" into the internet and the great Google will give you full information on where and when it will take place. By the way, there is also a good site called Hopstop... just enter where you are and where you need to go... they will break down for you exactly how best to get to your destination. Madame Tussauds Museum is located on Times Square, 234 W 42nd St. (between 7th and 8th Ave). Empire State Building - between 33rd and 34th street. To find Times Square, you need to walk up Broadway to 42nd Street. There is a very beautiful library on the corner of 42nd St and 5th Ave. To get to Chinatown, you need to take the subway to the Canal Street stop. Hard Rock Cafe - 1501 Broadway. Central Park – corner of 5th Ave and East 64th street. Well, maybe this information will be useful to someone)
