À propos du lieu

Real Madrid restored its home pitch from wartime destruction before relocating matches to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Estadio Chamartín functioned as a multi-use arena in Madrid and hosted competitive home fixtures for Real Madrid. The grounds served as the club's primary sporting venue until the inauguration of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Constructed with large spectator stands, the ground established regular league football in the capital before wartime disruption suspended competitive matches across the country.

During the Spanish Civil War, military authorities converted the sports venue into an internment camp for prisoners and later repurposed the property as a material storage depot. Troops stripped the wooden stands to burn for heating fuel, leaving behind bare structural frameworks.
