À propos du lieu

The Montjuïc funicular operates as an integrated transit link between the city metro network and the cultural parklands on the hill.

The funicular runs predominantly through an underground tunnel, linking Paral·lel station directly to the Montjuïc hillside. Passengers board at the metro hub to reach the higher slopes without navigating the steep roads on foot. The route carries riders straight to athletic grounds and cultural attractions, creating an efficient transit corridor between dense city blocks and the open parks above.

Engineers originally constructed the railway for the Barcelona International Exposition, and teams later rebuilt the system to support the Summer Olympics. Modern passengers use the line to access Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys alongside nearby competition venues. The original upper extension toward Montjuïc Castle no longer operates as part of the funicular, leaving the separate Montjuïc Cable Car to complete the summit ascent.
