À propos du lieu

Leluh preserves the megalithic stone capital where ancient Kosraean royalty once governed.

Leluh encompasses substantial megalithic ruins constructed from stacked columnar basalt and coral fill across the island. The complex functioned as the political and mortuary seat for ancient rulers, incorporating high walled enclosures, sacred burial crypts, and elevated tombs. A network of channels originally allowed seaward transit between the stone compounds.

Modern village life directly borders the archaeological monument, placing contemporary timber homes alongside ancient basalt enclosures. Long-term residents must actively manage relentless humidity that corrodes unsealed electronics and spoils fabric. Dense maritime vegetation continuously reclaims paths between the stone walls. Salt spray from the adjacent shore accelerates structural decay on domestic equipment.
