Residents in Kentron balance central urban noise against the steep lanes of Dzoragyugh, treating the museum compound as a familiar benchmark on daily walks.
Parajanov chose the building site and approved the architectural plans in the Dzoragyugh ethnographic center when relocating to the city. A major regional earthquake and subsequent socio-economic turmoil disrupted construction, delaying the public launch until after the artist died. Founding director Zaven Sargsyan established the space to safeguard Parajanov's extensive artistic and literary estate.
Beyond displaying fixed collages and drawings, the institution operates as an active cultural hub producing specialized publications and staging temporary exhibitions. The complex regularly hosts official delegations and honorary receptions for attendees of the Yerevan International Film Festival. Visiting directors, writers, and foreign dignitaries frequently gather here, making the quiet hillside courtyard a recurring meeting point.
