Introduction and "airplane" feelings

Introduction When you are in a big, cold city, you hardly imagine another life. You don't think that somewhere, 8,000 km away across the ocean, in the south of the North American continent, in the state of South Carolina, in the city of Myrtle Beach, there is Broadway at the beach, and there, in the back room of the Coastal Outfitters store, David is checking long-sleeved shirts, and Sam is explaining to J-1 students how hangers differ. A place where a pedestrian is a curiosity, and if you are also white, and if you are also a girl, then expect to be startled by car horns and shouts. A place where your African-American neighbors watch you come and go from work every day. A place where it is warm not only from the sun, where everything seems the same, but is completely different. Part 1 The Road to City M Getting to New York, the city of dreams for many dancers, programmers, musicians, businessmen, tourists, travelers, and other inhabitants of our planet, was easier than expected. Strangely, it is not the city of my dreams. I never dreamed of NYC or the USA in general. I applied for the program quite spontaneously and on the very last day. To get to NY, I just had to leave everything behind, enter the airport, get my boarding passes, go through security, meet my travel companions for the first time in my life—at least for the next 24 hours—and board the Minsk-Frankfurt flight. There, I exhaled a little and called my mom, heard crying on the other end, and got a little nervous again. But then, I met my neighbor on the plane and spent 2 hours of the flight listening to stories about doctors. His questions about my trip didn't calm me down at all; rather, they made me realize that I was doing something crazy, at least for myself. – “Wow, you are flying to New York, so far away. Are you staying there? Will you be met? How are you going on your own? Wow, and then to Myrtle Beach, by bus! There are a lot of Mexicans there and it's dangerous. For 2.5 months? Do you even know the girls you are flying with well? You met an hour ago? Oh, you are a brave girl, Lyuba.” In my head, I thought: “What am I doing? Where am I going at all? Why do I need all this?” Having safely reached Frankfurt, I just had to transfer to another flight, and task No. 1 was almost done. True, I had to go through a million security checks, especially me. They decided to send me for an extra screening, where, for complete happiness, they had to shine a flashlight into my mouth. Boarding the huge Boeing to NY was already a relief, knowing that for the next 8 hours, I could forget about panic, not rush anywhere, and not get lost. But in reality, there were so many thoughts in my calmly sitting body; they were running, jumping, and it felt like they were competing for the title of the most panicked thought. We arrived on Tuesday, and we ended up having two of them. We passed all the checks and immediately encountered American optimism. “Why so sad? You are flying to Myrtle Beach; I would go there myself right now. Smile, let's take your photo.” Then there were 30 minutes of dizzying waiting for the suitcase on the carousel. And hallelujah, we and our luggage were on US territory, at the famous JFK airport. There was a black hole in our heads, and ahead was a long road, a big story, a whole life in a country across the ocean. A couple of hours on the AirTrain at different terminals and the subway, and we were somewhere inside the city called New York. Using a map, we found our bus stop and headed there with our suitcases. On the way, we found ourselves in Chinatown, where it smelled of fish, everyone we met was Chinese, and there wasn't a single sign in English. For a second, it seemed like we had boarded the wrong plane and arrived in Beijing. We still made it to the so-called bus stop, filled with African-Americans. I pushed my phone with electronic tickets into the window to the Chinese man; he answered something in English-Chinese, and of course, we didn't see any

Philadelphia, PA

From the very beginning, this city was just a stopover between Washington and Boston. Honestly, I didn't want to come here (and I still think I should have stayed in Washington for one more day to see all the museums), but I had already missed the morning bus, and no one had canceled the Philadelphia-Boston ticket, so I had to go by car with David. Tip: If you are traveling by car, be careful! Missing the right turn on the highway means losing about an hour of time to turn back and try again. Studying the map and swearing with every word we knew, we tried to bypass the Tolls (these are points on the roads where you have to pay to continue). We arrived in the city at 5:30 PM (of course, all the museums closed at 5). There are exactly 2 things to see in Philadelphia: the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Well, okay, the LOVE statue too. We saw the bell, but the Hall only from the outside; there was some construction work inside, and they weren't letting anyone in. Since we ended up in this city, I thought, we have to try a Philly cheesesteak. How much time do you think it takes for 2 more or less adult people to find a Philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia? The correct answer is 1 hour and 20 minutes) Just as we finished eating, a downpour started, and we decided to head back to the car. And suddenly, without any warning, 1,700 completely naked people on bicycles decided to ride through the main streets of the city! Such is life. It made no sense to look for accommodation for one night, so we slept in a beautiful parking lot. A very unusual experience) Philadelphia is the city where the famous movie "Rocky Balboa" was filmed. David used to box, it's his favorite movie, so we went to those very steps that Rocky climbed, from which there is a stunning view of the city. After eating some junk food, we reached the bus station and said goodbye. I didn't expect this from the city, but it was fun) Boston was ahead.

BE YOUR OWN GUIDE!!! By organizing your trip yourself, you'll ensure the best journey of your life. Or about how I love to get lost in every city and not worry about some guide waiting for me somewhere. San Francisco - Los Angeles - Las Vegas - Grand Canyon..

And so, the day arrived. San Francisco airport, we meet up, seeing a friend for the first time, and our friend was there to meet us too. We set off in search of our hotel, which was located in the city center, 10 minutes from the park near the Golden Gate. For three days, without feeling our feet, we walked up and down, waiting to see what the new day would bring; it is a magical, windy, mesmerizing city that sticks in your memory. The bus from San Francisco to Los Angeles greeted us with warm sun; about 7 hours on the road and the weather will pleasantly surprise you with hot, scorching sun. The hotel was in the center again—why I emphasize this is because it is very important to have convenient access to local attractions. We spent the first day at the famous Santa Monica Beach; we got sunburned, went crazy, and simply couldn't believe we were in Los Angeles, the City of Angels and the film industry. We spent the entire next day at Universal Studios; I feel like I made up for my whole childhood there, so many emotions... Ahhh... I would repeat a trip to this place a million and a million times! On the final third day in LA, we saw everything we could: the Walk of Fame, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, where we stumbled upon a Cadillac commercial shoot and 'borrowed' a real Harley Davidson from a police officer, who, with a smile and all his kindness, let us have a mini-photoshoot on his motorcycle. And then that evening arrived, the brightest of the trip; we went to the most cinematic beach in LA, Venice Beach. It was a long ride, about an hour and a half, and there was nothing to do on the bus, so we chatted with everyone around us. My longest conversation was with a pleasant man with whom we just talked about the city, the people, and America in general. I also told him quite a few interesting and even surprising things about Russia. At the end, a shocking piece of news awaited me: he was an actor and producer in one, who just rides the bus and is happy about it, happy to watch people, saying it helps with his work. An actor who took part in the filming of The Green Mile... And there IT was – the beach. Filming of everyone and everything, a bunch of cameras, surfers, skaters, an atmosphere worth a million... We just froze... Until the moment a wave covered all our things... We spent a long time happily cleaning them of sand... And satisfied, we headed to our next transfer: Los Angeles – Las Vegas. Where another three amazing days awaited us. Las Vegas turned out to be even hotter, but it greeted us with a pleasant rain, during which we were able to sleep a little in the morning; it was necessary for a new charge. Life begins there in the evening; naturally, we left some N-th amount of money in the slots and roulette. You can't leave without that. We went to the best show in the world, Le Reve The Dream; it was something else, I had tears of delight watching this show. And we spent the entire next day at the Grand Canyon; we were simply speechless... Dreams come true... That is how my summer went. And this is probably one-hundredth of what I want to say... I will remember this summer for a long time. We finished our last day in Las Vegas with shopping—well, how could we not, we are girls after all... And we flew off in different directions... We were all from different cities, but what we experienced will bind us forever... And we will definitely meet again!!!
