Artists and researchers spend mornings inside Joaquín Sorolla's preserved studio to observe how natural daylight hits his canvases, trading grand museum halls for the domestic working conditions of an artist's home.
The institution occupies the private residence and working studio of Joaquín Sorolla, established after his widow bequeathed the property to create a public collection. The state designated the estate as Bien de Interés Cultural and operates the site as a National Museum under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. The building preserves family memorabilia alongside works by Sorolla, his wife Clotilde, and his daughter Elena.
The interior retains the original furniture and arrangement maintained during the painter's lifetime. His main studio features abundant natural daylight across walls hung with finished canvases and studies. Adjoining rooms function as permanent viewing galleries for his paintings, while the upper floor accommodates rotating temporary exhibitions that display photography and stage productions inspired by his work.
